Poster: A snowHead

According to the SCGB (snowforecast.com) it's going to rain in Tignes with temps around +6 over the next few days - it even states this in the SCGB snow overview!
However, the forecast for VDI is snow and below freezing....
Anyone shed any light on this?

There's no way that Val could be 6 degrees colder than Tignes. Have you verified this on snowforecast's own site?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Don't worry - snow-forecast have just messed up the altitudes. The top station forecast is actually for 1052m!!

I picked up on that and assumed it was just their mistake. Just threw me a bit when the SCGB said " Horrible news....rain up and down the mountain" in their overview of France - They obviously didn't pick up on the errors

Full sun forecast for Les Arcs, just down the road in the valley, until Wednesday pm when cloud is supposed to start building up. So if the easterlies do bring some moisture across from Italy there shouldn't be much precipitation until at least then.
Progressively warmer though - 0°C at 2900m forecast Wed pm....
davidof's the resident weatherman... perhaps he can enlighten further!

dave_wick,
Hi,
In Jan expect Tignes to be cold as the base station is v high, well over 6000ft....!!!although you will be used to that if you know the Caingorms...LOL! If it is sunny you will be fine.
Tignes is 3 locations, Tignes Lavachet, the main part, Val Claret which is across the frozen lake and Brevierre which at 1550m is below the dam. If you are in Tignes Lavachet then you wil be alright for nightlife but expect beer to be 6 euros a pint...!! Sorry about my geography if it is a bit out of date but drinking is expensive most places in the alpes.

dave_wick, Prepare to be gobsmacked! Tignes has some of the finest skiing on the planet for all ability levels. If that isn't enough it also links to Val d'Isere where the same applies.
I remember getting to the top of the Furnival for the first time after 4 years of Bulgaria and being amazed at how much was on offer just in view. Enjoy.

dave_wick, I'll be there in end of January (well, 28th - 5th Feb) with a group of 14. Where you staying? We'll be with UCPA in Val Claret.
Can't wait! Just hope the skies start emptying their loads in time!
