Poster: A snowHead
|
Ok, so I was on backcountry trip in CO last week(and loved every minute - minus the food issues). My boyfriend is the experienced backcountry guy - really, I'm along for the ride and scenery. As it was my first trip, I didn't really know what to expect. We picked up some "staples" and now I think I've lost 10 pounds!!!! EWE that SH*** is nasty. So I wondered, what is good backcountry fare, and what should we avoid next time. The absolute worst was the Pantry Mexican rice with bean crap, though the backpackers beef stroganoff wasn't much better. What should we get next time????

Our nearest 'Oriental' store does great dried noodles, chop in some Chorizo and it's just dandy.

I take Cous cous when I go camping. It doesn't need much cooking so saves on gas.
Plus SZK's chorizo tip is a good one. It keeps well and add lots of flavour to bland dishes.

prog99, Awesome, Cous Cous it is, just need hot water and leave it stand, mind you that does work for noodles if you don't mind them a little crispy.
