Poster: A snowHead

Can anyone advise on how bad (or good!) Serre Chevalier is likely to be over easter weekend for crowds & queues?
I appreciate it will be busier than normal (what resort won't?) & won't be as deserted as when I was there in January, but would like to know if any potential horrors await......
I was at Tignes in the last week of Feb and was shocked to find (in some places) the busiest/most crowded/most dangerous runs I've ever seen anywhere. Will I find something similar at Serre Che?

mountainaddict,
SHs who own properties in Tignes may disagree with

So bear this in mind for the comments from the property owners of Serre Chevalier.
To be fair Serre Chevalier seems to have a long way to go yet to replicate the crowd level of Tignes, judging by the ease of finding accommodation there, but Easter can be a bad time to hit mega size resorts, especially those in France.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Neither the French nor British schools are on holiday in the two weeks either side of Easter, AFAIK.

mountainaddict, in 6 seasons here, I've never known Easter to be anything like the Christmas/New Year or February crowds.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

chris, how bad is christmas week for queues and crowds? especially from the point of view of someone who is staying in Monetier and wants to explore all the area.

Christopher, it's never terrible. Just get out early and avoid last run down in late afternoon. 12 - 2pm is the best time, while all the lightweights eat.

Cheers to all for responses - quite heartened by that!
Saikee: I was amused by your comment re SHs who own properties in Tignes - because I do! Are there really property owning Snow Heads who would say that Tignes is quiet in the Feb hols??!!
The good thing from our perspective is that our place gets let out easily in Feb (and other holiday periods) as Tignes in so popular - so we can't have it both ways! This is our first season of ownership so we thought we'd check out how bad (or good) it was in Feb, crowd wise. It wasn't all runs that were busy - still possible to find some quiet pistes. Worst offenders were from tops of links from Val D'Isere to Tignes - especially horrific from the top of Toviere to Val Claret. Strangely, we found Val D'Isere pistes in general a lot less busy than Tignes.

mountainaddict, we own an apartment in France too, and we make ourselves scarce for the February holidays and the last week of February was one of the Paris weeks, so horrific crowds at big name resorts were fairly predictable. We don't have a lot of experience of Easter yet, but so far (5 years) we've found it fine, and as noted above, Easter just isn't a big deal for French skiers, it seems. And most of the English schools aren't on holiday till the end of the first week in April. Easter should be good - providing there's some snow, and as it's so early this year chances should be reasonable.
