Yes, I'm think you can, not least because the pistes might not be open because of insufficient snow.

Yes thought that myself the bottom of the lift is 1176M then there's a home run below that, how low can you go. As you know this area very well, maybe you can offer advice, we try to visit Les arcs at least once a year on a family holiday. It offers something for everyone. My wife loves the well groomed motorway pistes in Les arcs and the kids just head for the top of the Augille Rouge.
How does La Rosiere compare.

To be perfectly honest I find the skiing in La Ros to be quite dull, especially in comparison with Les Arcs. There's a wider range of piste skiing on the La Thuile side of the domain, but it always strikes me as being a bit of a hike to get to, and the plateau across the top often suffers from strongs winds. I like to visit for a day every now and again, mainly to ski across to Italy, but I wouldn't want to spend a week there.

Thanks rob@rar I was kind of getting that impression myself and that was by just looking at the Piste Map
Personally for an all rounder I do think Les arcs even with the VE closed takes some beating

Kel, the Ecudets chair lift runs all the time irrespective of whether Fontaine Froide is open or not, there is a navette service from BSM to Ecudets every day. There is an off piste run down to Villard Dessus but I've never seen it, you'll probaly have to ask a real La Rosiere expert like rob@rar how to get to it.

rob@rar, no you've nothing good to say about our resort unlike the ski instructors who used to work in Les Arcs and now work in La Rosiere.

David@traxvax, he asked me my opinion. I gave it. Unlike you I very rarely volunteer my opinion about my neighbour resorts.

The Ecudets chair lift does open all the time but the Fontaine Froide run may not always have adequate snow cover though. Don't think it is as enjoyable as any of the runs above the La Rosiere stattion. I mean you might have to avoid the grits/stones to minimize the damage to the skis.
For obvious reason one can survey the piste on the way up the Ecudets chair lift but the condition at the end of a skiing day can change significantly.
I tend to agree with rob@rar's view bearing in mind this is raltive to Les Arcs which is one of the best rounders in Tarentaise. La Rosiere/La Thuile is a very nice place to ski but to beat Les Arcs is a different matter.

Kel, I got a discounted day rate at La Ros with my season pass last year, and the previous year my brother-in-law got the same discount with his 6-day Les Arcs pass. Both D@T and saikee have said the chair runs regardles sof snow. I think that's as certain as you need.
I don't set out to offend people, but if I'm asked a question I answer it as best I can. David has frequently criticised other resorts in order to gain commercial advantage. It appears that he doesn't like the same traffic coming back at him

Yes you can go down the ecudents chair, as there was someone coming down it last week when i was going up and i passed them.
What was good about la thuile /la ros last week was the lack of crowds and lift queues, especially on the italian side.
La rosiere was baking hot, and so very soft pistes, la thuile was not, and was much colder, all the blacks down to the village were open and were great fun.
The skiing on the la thuile side is much more varied, but less snow than la ros. The link is easy to do. The off piste remains untracked for days.
Les arcs is a different type of resort, and i don't think you can compare them as they appeal to different markets.

Les Arcs appeals to the needs of my family Hols
Me : A competent dare I say advanced skier, but these days prefer to ski well within my limits
Other Half : Can ski anything as long as it marked as a blue, (have tried everything to change her mind set ) also will tackle reds and a few Blacks as long as I have skied and reckon she will be OK
2 Kids (well actually 17 & 18 ) The steeper the better they love the runs off the Augille Rouge
This is why Les Arcs is my fauvorite resort as we can all do our own thing and meet up for lunch and when the wife has had enough I too can go for a blast with my boys, even if they do kick my fat ass.

I mentioned the Ecudents chairlift open all the time because the piste run between La Rosiere 1850m and the bottom of the Ecudents chairlift at 1176m isn't always skiable and can have parts broken. I remember once it was quite stony at places and another occaison the piste was watery, Thus there are a lot of piste users taking the Ecudents chairlift down, as there are two small car parks there.
There must be times the Fontaine Froide run is in good condition but I just didn't hit the right condition for at least 3 occaisions in New Year time and end of Mar..
You will not have any trouble to use that chairlift to come down and will find the operators will slow down the lift for you to get in and out.

I quite like the look of Seez, trez quiet, but I think I'd like it with a car as a base for a range of resorts rather than rely on just one lift to access the resort. La Ros, does of course specialise in good quality family accommodation . . . for the most part

When the snow is good it is a wonderful run, either variant. There's also a little dolls house of a cafe at the bottom which serves nice hot chocolate and holds about 10 people
