Sadly tomorrow I have to put snowchains on and go downtown. It would have been great to venture a bit around in the morning sun. Forecast is clearer sky and -3 centrigrades!

Yep, this morning was still fab, but raising temperatures mean that snow is quickly melting and skiing is becoming impossible. The mountains nearby Athens, such as Parnassos, are having one of the best seasons. At the base, in Parnassos today: 80 cm. At the top, more than a metre. Not bad.

Parnassos: lots of fresh snow. The top (2,300 m) has more than 140cm now. Mid-way station at 1900m has more than a metre. Knowing the Greeks, there will be lots of untracked offpiste still this weekend.
Get your skis down to where sun shines!

I am back from Parnassos after two days of skiing. Weather was great, morning a bit chilly, afternoon warm. No or very little wind, clear blue sky.
Snow on piste: morning icy. Piste conditions good, but lots of skiers skidding make it icy quite quickly. More than a metre and half snow on the top. At the bottom still very good although in the afternoon gets soft and quite heavy.
Snow off-piste: mostly tracked. The last snowfall was a week ago. Lots of tracks in the easiest parts of off-piste near to the lifts. A bit more adventurous areas untracked, but snow is hard now. In the morning, the off-piste was icy and hardpack. Afternoon, on south-facing slopes snow were slushy, heavy, but it is still solid enough to give a go.
More fresh snow needed right now!
