my jacket has one of these internal snow skirts, and I find that if I do it up I never fall and it is not needed, however it does mean I get quite hot. However on the occassions I forget to do it up I always seem to fall and get snow up my back. Should I do the skirt up or not? I have toyed with the idea of getting a jacket without a skirt at all, which I suppose would solve the problem - what do people think?

rayscoops,
How about getting one with a detachable skirt that zips off? In that way you could do it up AND unzip it. Best of both worlds surely?

Get a jacket with a built-in snow kilt instead. You won't need pants and much more breathable

rayscoops, I got a jacket this year with big zips right under the arm pit. Still warm. It also has these cuff things on the sleves that you slip your hands through. Its kind of like a snow skirt for gloves. Seriously thinking of cutting of.

Only a fool uses a jacket without a snowskirt/done up
Or
I've never used a snowskirt and don't see the need for one.
There I've pretty much summarised the rest of the thread. FWIW I used to have/use one - now I buy jackets without - its not a big deal to me . Mesh in the underarm vents is a nice feature though.

thefatcontroller,
My jacket seems to have a similar kind of feature which is meant to go over the head. What do you suggest I do with it?

Keep the skirt - theres evidence to suggest that it could increase your chances of surviving an avalance by up to 70% due to its "snow deflection" properties.

Out of interest what is your snow skirt made from, is it snowhead obligatory IceBreaker, Falke or Smartwool material? The snow skirt in my jacket provides no insulation apart from trapping in some air.
