The subject of how much wax is used per pair of skis cropped up on a recent thread.
I waxed 5 pairs of skis tonight:
179cm High Society FR's 92mm underfoot
183cm Missions 88mm underfoot
178cm B2's 78mm underfoot
168cm Supershapes 68mm underfoot
162cm B5's 76mm underfoot
Total wax used = 70g = 14g per pair average with some fairly big skis in the list, & I wasn't been economical with it either.
Whoever said it was about 20g per pair obviously knows nowt

Nice one, the less you put on, the less you have to scrape off, the less you have to buy, the less you sweep up, makes sense to me.
I find the less I have left the less I need.

I've found the crayon method's quite economical and less binding splattering.

johnDUB, I don crayon, the Dominator zoom from Jon is quite hard.. barely leaves a trace.
Do use it 'economically' so i don't splatter it over the bindings... used about 100 of the 400 gramms now, and it must be around the 10 or maybe more waxes in total by now...

But does it actually do anything useful?
I find unless it's thoroughly hot waxed into the base, it lasts about 1 run.

I think johnDUB, means he doesn't drip the wax onto the ski base, but warms the block of wax on the iron, then crayons on a thin layer whilst the wax is soft. Repeat until ski is covered, then iron in.

If it's a soft wax, I crayon, harder, and I do indeed warm it up and crayon it on. Then I hot iron it in.A long time I go, I read on a packet of wax, that if an iron was unavailable, you could get a carrier bag, rap it up and polish the bases ( once crayoned on) with that to generate some heat. My mate used to do it on his Kastle's.. He got a cork polishing block, rap kwiksaves finest and rub like a goodun'. he said it worked

Oh I see what you mean now. I do the same, but only to protect the base from the hot iron on the first pass. I still drip it on after crayoning a thin layer on first. Otherwise I'd be there all day!

What are some of guys doing with all this wax - drinking it? I got my last set of wax in May last year, since when I've used about 500g. I must wax my skis at least 1.5 times per week (the toothbrush matting really strips it off quickly), so that's maybe 60-70 waxes. That's an average of 8g per wax, and I always think I've put way too much on. OK, they're only 155cm slalom skis, so not a huge area. That warm/crayon technique suggested by Dave Horsley sounds useful - looks worth trying, although may be a bit fiddly.

I must be using way too much.... I found with the dominator universal I dripped on then ironed but ket getting patches with no wax.
I then driped, ironed, then driped and ironed again & that seemed to work really well, it also lasted the whole week.
I had some DATA universal wax, this only needed dripping then ironing & spread really well & used a lot less - It also lasted all week.
Am I doing anything wrong? Is my iron on too colder setting for the dominator?

 , if you're getting patches with no wax then it sounds like you're either not using enough wax. Or your iron isn't hot enough. Try upping your iron temp slightly (110-120C) - the wax should run freely off the iron but not smoke. Zoom Uni runs spreads really easily so if a hotter iron doesn't do the try using a tad more wax.

On runners comment. I found some Data Wax Black, and I did my Xscreams with it. It did go on a lot better than toko. Just the white patches on the base look messy.
