Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

New Boots for a female 56 year old Powderhound.

Mrs Chris needs new boots to replace her very lightweight Nordica PFP's. At 8 stone, 5' 5" tall and thin legs, the replacements need to be light above all else. A competent off-piste skier, her legs are not that strong and her knees are a little dodgy. Any advise will be much appreciated.

Telemark boots.

Or AT boots as long as the price of the lighter weight doesn't come at a cost of reasonable stiffness...

Get a G-fit liner which might make them lighter as well..maybe the female version of Adrenalins or some such..you'll need the boot people to be more specific

chris, unless Mrs Chris does much touring I wouldn't go for an AT boot. They pretty much suck for downhill skiing (although they are getting better). If she does do some skinning then it would be a great solution as they are warm and very light.

As with all boots it's all about the fit. I'm sure you could do some research in to weight if that is such an issue but don't sacrifice the fit.

My flippant comment about telemark boots was based around the 'dodgy knees' statement. At 56 if she wants to carry on skiing for a long time to come telemarking would be a really good option for her if you live in Serre Che. If you only do 1 or 2 weeks a year learning a new discipline is hard, but if you do get to ski more often then really consider telemarking, it's so much more forgiving on the body.

parlor, cheers for that. Hadn't thought about telemarking 'cause it looks as though it would be hard on the knees but we may give it a go. We could be on for some skinning, once the lifts close.
JT, thanks also for the advice. Lin is looking forward to your visit, as the snow is so good this season. I'm not though! I think you're a bad influence on my wife! wink
