Going to get some new ski poles, looked on the web for info prices range from £20 to £70, with most around £40. What is the difference between poles? Does it really matter as I am not into racing. Are poles 1 piece of kit that you can buy on looks?

I used to use the basic alloy ones but use composite Salomon ones. They were about £70 but it's down to preference really. I had some free Goode ones before with my K2's and purple didn't match saffron, so I bought the salomon Teapu's. Happy with them. Light and thin with a two peice grip. But really down to wallet and taste really.

Expensive poles tend to be lighter, and therefore quicker in the hand, most people seem to ski with poles that are too long.

I have Decathlon Carbon poles .... why? Lighter and thinner so easier to carry/grasp on pomas, Tbars and chair lifts , cheap-as-chips as usual with Decathlon ...

The most important thing is to get very thin poles, as there is a school of thought which says that you should ski with them up your arsecrack (see thread on 'Bend ze knees').

Use Goode carbon ones, really thin and light plus are adjustable too. Bought em on a whim as I had bent numerous ones before. Never had a problem with them and as johnDUB, says they do flex a little too
Some people dont like them as they are light but thats personal choice.

Funny how you get use to that slight flex innit?

I got some new from an ebay shop for £12, they phoned and discussed the size I needed and I skied with them at MK - they seemed OK - do me until I bend 'em anyway.
