Hello everyone! I am looking into buying either the Volkl 5 or 6 and i am a 6 foot 18 year old male who weighs about 180 pounds. The skis come in 168, 175, and 182 cm and im just not sure what size to get. Im guessing the 175 or 182 but i havent bought new skis in a long time because i have been growing and now that im done im excited to get a pair. I have been skiing my entire life and can do anything, anywhere on the mountain but i stick to the groomed about 75% of the time. I would love any feed back on what length i should go for. I ski the 5* at 168 personally, I'm your height and slightly heavier. There's nothing about their handling that would make me want a longer ski, that said I have some Zags and Atomic 11.22's at 180 I use off-piste so the 5* is a pure piste ski for me.

BDUB1986, Don't stress so much. If you ski mostly on piste (why??) then go shorter, off-piste probably longer. I'm 5'6",135 pounds. I have 150s for slalom on plastic, 174s for snow (mostly off-piste), 178s for tele and 188 GS for when I need to go fast.........For piste now (if I had money) probably 155-160 offpiste 170-175....

You are tall, quite heavy (and might still grow) and a good skier. Go long I say.
I am 6'2'' and 160lbs and ski a Voelkl (good choice btw) 1.90 twin tip (effectively 1.84ish), mostly off piste.
best to buy in resort and demo the different lengths.

I'm shorter and heavier than you and ski on 180 Head Monster Cross. I went that short last year after skiing 190s for a long time. I also have some Odysseys (www.odysseyskis.com)that are 177, not quite as wide as the Monsters and lighter. My son is 16, 5'11' and 190, he loves those Odysseys. I wouldn't go shorter than that except for something super fat.

BDUB1986, Go short rather than long. Apart from fast off piste turns no-one needs skis longer than about eyebrow height these days. ise, is probably right. However I agree with fiddler, that you should always try before you buy, and not just makes but lengths adn types of ski.
Worst mistake I ever made was buying a pair I'd never tried .............. took years to get rid of them and no-one else wanted them either.
