Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Rush to complete Indian ski lift project

French and Indian engineers are urgently trying to complete an $8 million gondola for the resort of Gulmarg in Kashmir. If all goes well it could open in January, though the inaccessible mountain has presented many challenges to the construction team...

The lift, which Poma started building in 1987 and part-opened in 1989, is claimed to be the world's longest and highest of its type. The gondolas will travel 5km from base station to top station. The delays have been caused by the long-standing dispute over Kasmiri territory between India and Pakistan, currently the subject of 'confidence building measures' and relative peace.
