Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Korea to build new ski resort

South-east Korea, already a popular area for wintersports, is to have a new ski resort called Oak Valley Ski Town, to commence operations in December 2005.
The resort, slopes and lift system are being designed by the SE Group of the U.S... formerly known as Snow Engineering. "When complete, the town will take up approximately 8,900 square yards of the area with the longest slope being 1,600 meters in length", according to this report (and artist's impression shown here) by The Korea Times - which has an intriguing way of mixing imperial and metric in a single sentence!

Here's another article on the project from The Korea Herald. They report:

A high-end express ski lift will be able to carry 9,200 people per hour, and the resort's capacity for one season is set around 320,000 people. Unlike other ski resorts, Oak Valley will integrate the starting areas of slopes so that both beginners and advanced ski lovers can start their course from the same point.

If so, that is a remarkably high capacity lift. The hungriest chairlifts and gondolas in the Alps devour about 4000 passengers per hour. So we'll try to find out more about this monster lift!
