OK, here's one for anyone who has spent hours rolling in the snow with a terrible hangover being encouraged to activate your core, been encouraged to ski down an entire piste wearing only one ski, been instructed to do a series of hopped turns on an icy black, or been told to flex their ankles beyond the limits of human endurance whilst doing all of the above down Tortin.
PAYBACK TIME
I've just got this from Warren, and if you are interested in supporting a very worthy cause, and paying for Wozza to suffer physically into the bargain then get your wallets out. I was with them when Lawrence asked Wozza if he fancied joining in the event and can confirm that he did indeed say yes straight away. Even more impressively when he found out exactly what it involved he didn't bale out and is taking the training very seriously. For more info go to Warren's website http://www.warrensmith-skiacademy.com/news/warren-smith-and-lawrence-dallaglio-charity-cycle.html
WARREN SMITH AND LAWRENCE DALLAGLIO TO CYCLE 933KMS FOR CHARITY
After Lawrence received 3 days of coaching from Warren this season, he wanted to return the favour!
Warren took Lawrence Dallaglio skiing this season to see what the big man was made of on the slopes. It was an amazing 3 days of development and Warren confirmed that Lawrence was one of the fastest learners in skiing he had ever coached. On day 1 Lawrence was making basic parallel turns and on day 3 short radius turns and the steep slope of Mont Fort were conquered. Quite an achievement!
On a chairlift in Verbier on the 3rd day Lawrence asked Warren if he fancied joining in with a cycle challenge in France. Warren agreed to doing it without realising too much of the details. He was a bit shocked when he found out it was 933km's over the French Pyrenees but as it was the big man asking and for the Bliss Charity he felt honoured to be a part of it.
Charity Registration No 1002973
This event will test more than just personal endurance. The team have also taken on the challenge of raising an amazing £175,000 for Bliss. From March through to September 2008 a range of fundraising events will take place to help boost the £50k that has already been raised by one individual alone.
Warren starts training in July for the challenge and has just set up his charity fundraising page with Justgiving ( www.justgiving.com/warrensmith1 ). Please take the time to look through the cycle challenge in detail by clicking on this link and please give generously on Warren's Just Giving page. Warren will keep you updated with his training regime over the summer in person in Saas-Fee and on our Academy news pages.

I wonder why WSA has jumped ship from Profeet.
spyderjon wrote: |
Most definately Profeet (Hamish) on the Kings Road in London. They were recommended to me by the Warren Smith Academy. Warren reckons they are undoubtedly the best in the country as not only are they 'foot' specialists, they are also experts in the bio-mechanics of skiing, as wel as many other sports.
See their website (www.profeet.co.uk) for how they assess your requirements. |

Hi guys,
Thanks loads for publishing the Bliss Cycle Challenge news and raising some awareness to it. It's a great cause and any skiers out there that can spare anything from £2 upwards, please use this link to go to the page www.justgiving.com/warrensmith1.
There is a link to the full story here, www.warrensmith-skiacademy.com/news/warren-smith-and-lawrence-dallaglio-charity-cycle.html. You can also see some of the action my partner shot of me from our Japan trip in February at this link, www.warrensmith-skiacademy.com/news/japan-action.html
Regarding the move to ZipFit liners, I decided to move on to ZipFit after being shown then by some colleagues in the UK. The guy that showed me the liners was the main guy in the UK for fitting them and good friends with Sven Coomer who developed ZipFit and many other top boots. After trying them for a season it was a revelation. Andy Cuthill that fitted them for me dd an amazing job an that's the reason I've moved over to ZipFit. Snow + Rock carry the biggest stock of ZipZit for my clients to buy from. It's a win win for us and our Academy clients.
Feel free to email me any questions to warrensmith@snowsportsynergy.com.
All the best and hope you get some good summer skiing in. In off to Saas-Fee week after next.

for the zipfit lovers out there there is a new liner coming out for next season...this one is something a little different
Sven has blended the zipfit cork flow technology with the comfort features you would find in a thermo mould liner, the new liner [possible name heli guide] is made of ultralon foam and has a thin stich lasted sole and cork packs in the ankle pockets, fit wise it is said to be a little softer than the existing models but still with the heel hold which has be a signature of zip fit
good to see you like the zip fit Warren IMO there is not a better liner on the market

Hi Warren!
Welcome to the world of performance for your feet!!
Been a Zipfit and Superfeet combo fan for over 15 years. If I could find better, I'd use it.
Make sure you have the correct type selected by foot experts like Solutions 4 Feet...The best guys in the country...period.
They won't rip you off either with expensive overheads to pay for..........
Good luck with your cycling!

JT, No doubt that the OP publicised a very good cause. People support charities for various reasons. I budget for charitable giving within my overheads every year. I support a couple of local children's charities every year. As well as that a few higher profile ones in the Film industry, namely the Princes Trust & CTBF. Whether they choose to mention and credit me within their event is up to them. I do it because it's for a good cause, not for self publicity or marketing. If I get credited, well that's a bonus.

Spyderman, I prefer to use KIVA - www.kiva.org
This way you are making a direct loan(not handout) to person in need - to allow them to improve their lot.... Many charities have huge overheads - so infrastructure and staff payments take much of the donation... more lost in translation to those in need.... actual recipients not getting much... Using Kiva you know where you have sent your money and what it is doing....

Hi Guys,
Thanks for your comments, this section really was about raising profile for the Bliss Charity cycle challenge but somebody earlier did ask the question re ZipFit liners and why I had moved to ZipFit as a sponsor. I think the answer I gave on my previous post explained that, hope it wasn’t too long winded. As for the plug for the Solutions 4 Feet, you guys know already that I work with another provider for fitting, good luck with the business though and I've heard good feedback about your fitting from my clients so nice one.
Re the comments on making publicity for the cycle challenge and getting endorsements in on the back of this news, that's certainly not what the aim of putting this news up is. I'm doing 933km's across the Pyrenees which is by far the hardest challenge of my life and I would prefer the chat on this news topic to come with advise. Ideally from any Snowheads’ who have spent time or who are living in and around the areas of the Bliss Cycle Challenge. Any advice for myself and the team participating on accommodation, things to look out for in the areas, cycling tips, whatever you might know to be able to help. What we could also do with is any advice on fundraising. I need to try and raise £10k before September. I'm up to £1,763.30 since the 11th June so any ideas from those of you that have done this type of thing before would be welcome from myself and the other guys on the team. My link for the fundraising was on a previous thread.
I've got a cycle itinerary of the 8 days that I'm riding for but I think it's a bit long to post as it has 143 locations on it. If you think it's ok to copy and paste the list on this post let me know and I'll do so. I might try and get it put on a website so you can view it by clicking. The info on the Bliss site re the Cycle Challenge can be seen here, http://www.bliss.org.uk/challenge.asp?section=0001000100080002000100030004&search=Pyrenees+Cycle+Challenge
Look forward to hearing back from you guys with any advice.
Cheers, Warren

Warren, I don't see that as a plug for my business, what anyone else writes is not in my cotrol, all i was doing was giving that little bit more info on the liner which you are using plugging zip fit if anything, which IMO is a great product, i have no problem where anyone gets their kit as long as it is properly fitted for them

warrensmith, if you're doing the 933km and 16,000m climbing in 8 days that equates to over 70 miles and 6,000 feet per day.
It probably sounds horredous to a none cyclist; but it aint as bad as it sounds. Don't get me wrong, you'll find it tough going. However, I presume you spend most of your time in the Alps, so that should help with altitude problems.
In the meantime get as many miles into your legs as is humanly possible, rides over four/five hours are a must.
Where are you based at the moment?

Hi Marc,
Thanks for that. I think you're probably right to be honest as living in the mountains certainly helps. Also, whatever mountain we cycle up, we have to come back down again. I'll start on the 4/5 hours when I'm back in Verbier at the weekend. Any ideas of good saddles? I heard some bad things about the after effects of long distance riding and I'm keen to look after the old fella! Looking forward to being fit for the coming winter season though.
I'm in the UK at the moment until the weekend. Just been back to Hemel in fact tonight having a beer with Pete who running the new Hemel Snow centre project. Looks like things are coming on nicely there. Gonna be an amazing centre.
Do you do plenty on cycling? Picking my bike up from Scott next week. Looking forward to getting on it. I think my training will be mainly around a route from Verbier to Saas-Fee and I'm also thinking of doing the lap around Lac Léman which should be pretty intense.
Are you skiing this summer. How often do you ski / cycle?

warrensmith, invest in some decent Gel Cycling Shorts as well as the Best Saddle you can find, not forgetting decent Shoes. My Brother does the London to Brighton every year and learnt the lesson the hard way. Good luck with the ride.

Spyderman, thanks for that. I'm looking online right now. I think Scott do some so will probably end up with their's. Got any names of other top brands? How did your season go. Did you go to the closing day at Hemel? Looking forward to April 09 for the opening of that.

warrensmith, Can't really help with brands. My bike has sat in the garage for a couple of years My season went pretty well, highlight was last week of the season in Tignes, perfect weather, great snow and empty slopes. We went to the closing day, but missed the ski off by 2 minutes, M1 traffic but the party was good. Next season I'll be at Gosling, Tignes is booked for early December, then Fernie for 2 weeks in Feb, other than that nothing else planned.
Very excited about the new Hemel, can't wait., but strangely haven't missed not skiing this Summer, first time not skiing since 1991.
Hope next season is good for you.
