Been thinking about getting a new board of this year's model at a cheaper price next year, as my current setup is a bit poor. Demoing is not really an option. Anyways, what do people think would be the best board for me, given that . . .
- 6 feet tall, 165 pounds
- Ride mostly Whistler
- I like both groomed and ungroomed runs, enjoy easier mogul runs and want to work a fair bit on moguls, getting to do harder ones
- Also enjoy glades, but want to improve in them too and do harder glade runs with more confidence
- Love powder, but don't love hiking, so powder performance is important, but not as much as performance on pistes, soft-pack ungroomed, and hard-pack ungroomed
- Do the odd rail, but not much. I enjoy jumps, but mostly just natural kickers - I spend little time in the park. I do not do pipe, and do not plan to.
So to sum it up I guess I'm looking for something that is stable in nigh speed carves, but also good for quicker, skidier turns in moguls and trees, and at least decent in powder (mostly for tree runs and when I'm lucky enough to ride after a big dump).
Some boards I'm thinking of - Neversummer Premier, K2 disciple, Lib-tech Emma Peel, Salomon Era, Burton Custom, Unity Pride, and Ride Timeless. Comments on these or other boards welcome.

Thanks for the tips. I'm not really sure whether I would prefer an all mountain or a freeride. The park is of little importance to me, but I was thinking that the generally more pronounced sidecut + softer flex of an all mountain board might be better for trees and moguls? The timeless is a definite stiff freeride board, how do you find it in the bumps and trees? I think of it more as a board for long, drawn out, high speed carves than for quick turning. Also, how do you rate it's powder performance?
As for lib-tech, I would have thought the emma peel (159 instead of the pacifier's 163) would be a better choice for me? Maybe not, but my current board is a 163, and I feel like it's a bit too big.
Haven't even considered Option, but maybe I should? Do you know of anyone who's personally rode the Vinson? Also haven't considered Vokl - didn't even know they made boards.
I'll definitely consider the Anthem - I've heard good things about it too. Isn't it a bit more park-oriented than the rest of those boards though?
And I think the vapour will be a touch out of my price range

personally, I didn't think that the vapor was any better than my Timeless! - just lighter to carry
ponder, for a freeride piste blasting machine, the Timeless would be a great choice. It is pretty stable on landings and has a good amount of pop.
if mine were to be stolen (not wanting to tempt fate) I would probably buy an Option Jimi Makinnen (sp?) but that's because I am now learning all of those little things that make boarding fun and so would want an all-mountain plaything rather than a board that is really at its best when going full speed ahead.
but from your descriptions, the Timeless would be a good choice - plenty of edge grip, very stable, a joy to turn, easily thrown around when in the trees and changing direction quickly. Don't know much about the other boards I am afraid, except for the easy and overpriced choice of the Custom.
but the thing that worries me most about your post is that you seem to want to enjoy moguls!! I like blacks before the moguls appear. Once they do, I'll stick to other parts of the mountain. Just no fun at all. If I wanted to be good at moguls, I would take up skiing!

On piste, the Timeless's performance is outrageous, for a stiff board it turns sharp and tight too. With stiff boards its all down to the speed as they are designed for fast aggressive riding so they are very controllable at speed but they turn ability decreases at low speed.
It's perfectly fine weaving in and out of trees aswell. I used in in 3ft of fresh powder in Saalbach in 2004 and it rode very well. Must move the bindings back to keep the nose up as it has a stiff nose and will nosedive easily if you lose concentration. There are better powder boards out there but then they would not have the on piste ability.
Problem you have is the wealth of choice.
Do you ride fakey?? If so All Mountain will be better.
One other option. Nitro Suprateam. Stiffer than a Custom with the same all round performance.

Tony Lane, for some reason I just sort of enjoy moguls on a baord. I used to hate them, but just spent a few days riding alot of softer moguls and started to enjoy them quite a bit
Timeless is certainly sounding like a pretty good choice - if I can get a good deal on it, I'll probably pick one up. However, through my university, next year I'll be able to get 50% of 04/05 boards at a specific store, but they only cary Burton, Salomon, 5150, and Sapient  I'm hoping to find a really good deal on some other board, but can't guarantee it. That's why I was considering a custom (or custom x) or salomon's era. Don't really know about 5150, and I've heard that sapient's pnb1 and pnb2 are supposed to be good boards, but I'm not a huge fan of the pink 
In response to your fakie question - I only ride fakie when I land a 180, and even then transfer back fairly quickly.
Sounds like Option has got another vote though - definitely worth checking out I guess. They have 4 categories of boards - fs, all mountain fs, all mountain fr, and fr - sounds like something from their all mountain fr category might fit me best? (pintail legacy or siganture).

Hmmm, been looking at a bunch of on-line reviews, and the Rome Anthem is looking VERY appealing. Sounds like exactly the kind of board I'd like to ride. If I can get a decent deal on this, I think it'll be my first choice for sure. The question is, 158 or 161?
Edit: with that being said, does anyone ride an Anthem, or know somebody who rides an Anthem?

Not sure on the 165lbs ,but if you're 6 foot (You could be doing an internet type white lie,as you could 5'2 & 16 Stone!),i'd say the 161cm or maybe a tad longer .But there's a definite way of telling if you go to the snowandrock website:- : http://www.snowandrock.com/advice/buying_guides_snowboard.asp.

On the S&R thing I'm a 15 (well, currently I'm a 14, level 3 boarder by their scale, but would like to progress to level 4, so would be buying at that level), so a 161 would put me pretty much right in the middle of the "all mountain" section.
Edit: with regards to the weight/height thing, I'm pretty sure weight is actually more important than height. And the 6 foot / 165 lbs is not a lie - I'm only 19 and don't have a particularly large amount of muscle or fat Not sure if I've already mentioned this, but I currently ride a 163, and find it a little big, so I want something a bit smaller.

No i didn't know that Ponder.I'd say a 161 then for def.
I calculated my Board to be a 161/163,& opted for a 161.
Bought a 161 K2 Recon Riser off of eBay,last year,not tried it off piste yet (Well not in anything deep),but on Piste its very stable & pretty quick,good in hardpack too.

not on a 182 you won't!!! I've found details here and that looks like a very specialist board (although that review looks pretty old as the picture of the Nitro Naturals is at least 4 years old and the Timeless is also several seasons old) - hope you enjoy using it in the right conditions.

Tony Lane, the review is spot on and I think the only thing that changes over the years is the graphics. But I wouldn't call it specialist. (Unless not wanting to do moguls or spins makes you a specialist  )

I'm sure there are lots of great things about long boards, but I like to do moguls and trees, and I wouldn't mind learning to do 360's consistantly, so a long board is sort of out of the question for me.

Lets try to keep the snowboard forum active, and just turn this into a thread for reviewing your snowboard equiptment
I'll start it off. I'm a student, so curently I'm riding a super-budget setup:
Board: Division 23 "Power" 163
The board is definitely the best piece of equiptment I own - definitely a good deal for the money. Carves nicely on groomers. About the same as the other boards I've tried on ice. Floats quite nicely in the powder, though this is probably partly due to the length. A little soft for the crud - doesn't blast through it like stiffer boards do. It's relatively wide and sort of soft, so good on the landings even if you land a bit sketchy, as I often do. Pop is a bit below average.
Durability wise this board is quite decent - no delam, core-shots, dented edges, etc. Many smaller scratches to the topsheet and base, but that's to be expected. Edges are not stainless steel, so they do rust a bit.
Looks wise I don't like this board, definitely too gothic looking for me, but oh well.
Bindings: Division 23 "DB32"
TERRIBLE bindings. Not comfortable, infact they are very uncomfortable. A little while ago I landed a jump wrong, wiped out, and the baseplate of the binding exploded into many different pieces (less than 1 season of use). Got them replaced for free, and now the new pair slips quite a bit on one of the ankle straps. Definitely avoid these bindings - not that you're likely to see these anyways, as Division 23 is a fairly small, budget board company.
Boots: Lamar "Matrix"
OK boots for the quite low cost, but not great. Fairly comfortable (heat molded liners), but not stiff at all - you can fold these things in half. Durability is so-so, they are starting to fall apart in one or two areas (also after 1 season of fairly heavy use), but are overall in decent shape, and I expect they could last another season or two.
