Which Ski For Junior (4 years) - Never Been Skiing Before

I have recognized that there are many pros in here. I would like to ask your recommendations for purchasing skis for a four years old child. My friend's son is starting skiing now and his father asked me which skis to buy. He is looking for budget skis, but not any crappy skis. Any ideas?

If he's never been skiing before he may not like it. So possibly a bit premature to be looking at skis. That said, I had grave difficulty finding any information to help differentiate between one kid's ski and another. I ended up getting him Blizzard skis off ebay. He's used them at the snowdome once and they seem fine. Not convinced that the ski makes that much difference at this age.

I'd say borrow/hire for the first few times, for the reasons ibb has already said.

With #1 son, he started skiing at two and we bought as our local slope doesn't have skis under 90cm. He started on a pair of straight Hagen skis (70cm), since when has had Head (75cm - don't recall model) and Salomon ??s (80cm), Dynastar 8 (90cm) and now at age 6 is on Volkl P60s (100cm). Probably move onto some Atomic 7s this winter - if someone in the club doesn't give us a pair of something else.

All of these were perfectly fine for him to ski, and it's only with the Volkls that we started actually considering such this as sidecut as he's into slalom racing rolling eyes

And we've just aquired a pair of 60cm Fischer RC4 for #2 son - but he's not 1 yet Little Angel

Good points, thanks. Actually renting did even come to my mind. I agree that borrowing or hiring skis for the first few times would be a good idea.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
