Poster: A snowHead
|
Having trouble finding accom. for the 4-7 weekend in Jan 2008.
Not surprisingly I imagine this is a busy weekend following th Xmas hols but wondering on some good locations.
Flying into Zurich so was thinking Lech, Davos, Flims/Laax.
Don't want to do Engelberg til later in the season.
Any recommendations? Would it be better tjust to contact hotels directly?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

GordonFreeman, I don't think you'll have a problem, you're just a bit early. Most hoteliers etc will hold out for full week bookings and will only let rooms for part weeks / weekends within the last couple of weeks. Am sure if you enquire after Christmas then you'll get loads of offers ....

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

But I will probably have to contact the hotels directly won't I?
I have looked on a lot of sites and directly at the resort sites and they never seem to list available dates. I would imagine even if the hoteliers were waiting for week block bookings wouldn't they still list the availability?

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

GordonFreeman, No, most Austrian resorts have a very good online system where you enter your details, these are then sent to all hotels and those who can help will then email you an offer. You could try it now for your dates but I doubt you'll get many replies, try it now for the middle of December and you'll get quite a few.
You'll have more chance of success if you're only after one room, trying to get something for a group of 9+ is a little more tricky !
e.g. From the St Anton homepage click on "Online Request" (on the right hand side of the page, under Accommodation) fill in the details and wait a few hours.

Oh, make sure you change "Maximum no. of offers" to the max, and ensure you follow the enquiry through to completion as I seem to recall it promts for confirmation more than once - that's caught me out before.

Having said that, just noted that the Lech website doesn't seem to offer this facility ... doh !

GordonFreeman, Phone the hotel you fancy - most have websites. Just say "Bitte, darf ich auf Englisch sprechen?" They'll answer you in English. You can even call the tourist office.

GordonFreeman, I would wait until a week before you go, that way you will see where the snow is best and so choose the snowiest resort, that is what we did last year and boy were we pleased we did!!!

Sounds like a plan...just a bit worried that most of the decent hotels won't have rooms left by then...

GordonFreeman, They won't. I couldn't get Hotel Post before Christmas. We're going to the Kristiania - looks lovely.
