Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Ski tuning advice required

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Guys!

I've recently purchased some ski's and have used them a couple of times at the Tamworth Snowdome.

I'm off to Snowmass in December and was wondering if it was necessary to get them waxed/tuned, they seem to stick to the snow like glue, so i think they should be ok.

i appreciate, if i'd got some 'dings', then, they would definately need attention.

Actually, could someone explain the whole tuning and waxing topic to me please? i don't fully understand the diferent waxes, why you need to put a storage coat on, how often to get waxed, etc...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,

Stepee

stepee, welcome to snowHeads. A good place to start to learn about servicing your skis is www.skituning.co.uk If you service your skis (either yourself or a shop) they will perform a little bit better: sharper edges will be better on hardpack snow and ice, and waxed bases will run more smoothly, especially if the snow is very cold and/or fresh. Your skis won't suddenly stop working if you don't have them serviced, they just won't be as nice to ski on.

You'll need to Register first of course.

stepee, When first starting out having a ski that glides with minimal resistance may not be high on your agenda, but keeping your skis well waxed will give the bases longer life. The different waxes are suited to different temps', all most of us use is an all-round wax, you can also get some rub on waxes to use whilst out on holiday.

Storage waxes (normal wax is ok for that) simply prevent the base from drying out.
