Hi. I want to learn the basics of snowboarding before i go andorra in march. Just so im not learning on my holiday, that way i can put it all into practise and have fun with my friends and family,i live in manchester. Was thinking of trying some try slopes, does anyone recommend any, iv been to rosendale before, but iv had nothing to compare it to so i dont know whether its good or not.
Or i was thinking of going on holiday somewhere super cheap before march so i could learn there.
Im the only one doing snowboarding on my holiday, everyone else is sking and already know how to do it

When I decide to learn boarding I did the "learn in a day" course at rossendale. If you can do it on dendix/snowflex, you can do it on snow. If you start there you can then have the odd session at the new trafford snowdome.
If you have the cash to splash, then you can get a week away before your march trip - Since you'll need lessons, you should be able to get a week somewhere with snow for around £700 total (travel, accomodation, food, liftpass, lessons, beers), unless you go crazy

jim4571, Dendis and Snowflex are plastic snow-substitutes.

thanks lizzard, just looked on the rosendale site.£80 for 4 lessons at 1hr 45mins each, says you should learn the basics, turns, balance etc.
What do you think,i have no idea if this is a good price, compare to holiday skiing lessons etc. Has had these lessons from rosendale
Im guessing snow feels totally different to ski/board on than that stuff t rosendale

jim4571, boarding on plastic will be much more difficult - if you can get to grips with that, snow will be easy peasy.

I learned on Snowflex and it was fine. Dendix is a bit less forgiving on the knees/bum.
If you are going to have a lesson on dendix, I would advise buying/borrowing some knee pads and some bum protection (I've never tried it, but I know people who have cut up an old foam camping mat as a bum pad).

i think i got some hockey knee pads somewhere,il take them. cant wait to try out that new chill factor with the real snow!

Budget
£300 for a catered holiday ( you might get it cheaper if you go self catered and live off beans on toast)
£100 for lessons
£100 for lift pass
£200 for beer / food / equipment hire / extras that you;ve forgotten (again you can reducde this by not drinking out etc)

Learning to snowboard on dry slope not fun! Why don't you try the new indoor slope, Chill Factor e:

i think thats what im going to do, i think i read somewhere that you can get a yearly pass, have they posted any prices yet for chill factor?
|

You know it makes sense.
|
Membership (costs £100 for a year) gives you 30% off everything - ie slope use and lessons. I can't remember all the prices of lessons, but £150 for a course of group lessons (3 x 2 hr sessions) rings a bell... You can enquire via the website.

o right, i get you. So you pay your anuual fee and then whenever you go you get 30% of slope use etc. So is there not an option where you can pay a certain amount for all year round access to the slopes, where you dont have to pay anything anymore,or is that just dream world
