There'll be a full write up on the website shortly explaining just how we came to that conclusion.
And yes, it was a very close call...
The Fall Line Women's Ski of the Year is the K2 Tough Luv.

fallliner, how come Scott (let's face it... a pole & goggle maker) have risen from obscurity to this? Are they still popping out of the Blizzard factory?

fallliner, close - I guessed the Scott Mission again.
So that's as close as you can get without being right
They still 99% the same ski?

Its a Scott Mission but with a proper twin tip so park monkeys can use it so same as last year with an extended target market (& a cheaper price tag IIRC)..do I win- wouldn't mind a pair for teleing on?
Shame I'd have liked to see something a bit silly like a Hellbent doing the honours.

Fischer's factory, I believe. On the test there was just one Scott model that wasn't voted an utter belter. Yes, it's fast work but no faster than K2's outstanding turnaround about three years ago. Scott seem to be making good stuff in all areas right now - pushbikes, goggles - even the clothing has come on leaps and bounds. They are, as the Pussycat Dolls say, "hot like me". As in the Pussycat Dolls. Not me.

fallliner, if they pop out of Fischer's factory you can bet yer back bottom Fischer make a better ski in their own name. I mean, you would wouldn't you, if you owned the factory?
|
|
|
|
|
You know it makes sense.
|
As far as we know, almost every factory makes skis for everyone else. We aren't privvy to the full sp, mainly because it would seem quite a lot of manufacturers make skis for other brands which have their own factories and this isn't info that is widely distributed. Scott supply their own moulds and materials, as do several other brands to other factories, and simply rent time on the expensive infrastructure.

^^^ indeed - there's a huge difference between making a ski in someone else's factory and just rebadging someone else's skis

fallliner, Was the Neo the only ski that wasn't voted a belter? (I'm guessing from the tester reports!) Earlier in the year it seemed to have some extremely positive reviews and there are still some sites predicting that it will win awards. I was interested as, thanks to my young kids, I spend 70% of my time on-piste. However, I get 70% of my fun off-piste so it seemed to fit the bill (at least until the kids are venturing into the back country!) Now, I'm not so sure - the Mission sounds the safer bet!?
Thanks

edpyke, Neo gets my vote in this catagory. Punisher is a Mission Twin tip, shorter running length and no dual sidecut, can't see how that betters a Mission.

It probably doesn't, but the Punisher is a fair bit cheaper than the Mission, at least over here, so if VFM comes into it I guess that has a bearing.

the ice perv, Why would it be cheaper?

edpyke, yup, the Neo was loved by some and not by others, where all the others were generally very well reviewed. Doesn't make it a duffer, mind.RachelQ, yes, only a bit. I quite like brown too but can't get my feet into the fancy leather-look Head Jon Olssons.
SMALLZOOKEEPER, it is cheaper because it has a shorter running length and therefore uses less snow....

As they put it at the ski tests "it's a marmite ski" - people either love it or hate it.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, fallliner, FenlandSkier, Thanks for the replies. One more question - is it possible to summarise what types of skier liked it/hated it? (BTW, I like Marmite if that helps.. )

Well, I'm an overweight intermediate who is most at home mucking around on red runs and the edges of the piste. I like the Neo & Marmite.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, at £80 cheaper than the Mission it seems like too good a deal to turn down. Mine arrived today @ 182, but if it skis equiv 175/6 ish that suits me fine as i already have 183 Gotamas for very deep days but for an everyday ski Punisher at £360 incl bindings is fantastic value, isn't it?

edpyke, sorry, bit late back on this one: yes, pistey types preferred it and our bunch of huck-monsters thought it lacked pop for something that's trying to be a twin tip. We can refer to the slight rounded flip-up tail on skis like this and the current K2 Apache series as a 'semi'.
