Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

les gets is low. i am wondering if it will be OK mid/end jan. need to ensure enough snow at resort level to support kids lessons. we can go higher if not enough snow. i now nothing is guaranteed and past performance is no indication of future performance but would be interested in your experience/views ?

backhojo, it should be fine, it wasn't last year due to exceptionally mild weather but the grassy slopes of Gets don't need much cover to be skiable. It is very unlikely to be as bad again but as you say nothing is guaranteed.

I've been there in Jan for the last 4-5 years, and it's been perfectly snowy down to resort level every time except last year (which was hopefully just an anomaly, and affected most places). Even then, there was snow to the village most days.
Most lessons are up at the Chavannes area AFAIK (top of bubble), although the meeting point may be at the bottom of the bubble in the resort.

Would you say that Les Gets is suitable for children (5 and 6 yo) ? Is there enough green runs?
Cheers,
Elena

There is at least one totally fenced off area for youngish children, and plenty of orange barrier netting where everything all comes together. One of the best/safest places I've seen for children and beginners. There's a few greens, and half of the main chavannes plateau is basically beginners/childrens territory. IIRC there's another easy segregated area just near the bottom of the Chavannes bubble and chair.

backhojo / Elena - IMHO (and I'm biased of course), but Les Gets is a great beginner's resort and an excellent choice for kids - lots of beginner's terrain - there are 3 or 4 segragated beginner's areas - two at the bottom of the main base; one at the top of the main bubble and one over towards the old town area. The low altitude is a positive benefit as it's more sheltered. Oh and then there's the "Indian Run" - which kids of all ages love.

If the snow isn't fine then there will be a lot of depressed people - me included!

Elena, I learnt to ski in Les Gets ( albeit I was 45 years older Embarassed ) ... and of the places I've been since , I can think of none better for learning. The sheltered nature of the place also makes it great when we have all the snow we're going to have this year ; as its runs are ( at least on the Chevannes side) mainly tree -protected.

There are a few reports in the 'Resorts Reports Thread' re Les Gets.

Yes, we went to Les Gets twice in early January, in very ordinary sort of snow years, and it was fine. Some very good lessons available from BASS. Not cheap, but worth it for small groups and quality of instruction.
