Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

tp023,
I would not worry too much about the ski school reputation, for a short break like that you are likely to be best off having privates and most ski schools will have instructors competent in giving privates at that level. The main problem with 'bad ski schools' IMO is overlarge or overdiverse group classes.

La Clusaz is a fab place to learn and nice an quiet in Jan so you would have the slopes to yourself and not get worried about anyone in your way.

The main beginners area is at Beauregard which is 1650m - so good snow and fab views. With 3 restaurants in easy reach to revive your spirits with a vin chaud! The instructors are good too. You can choose from Snowacademie, Aravis Challenge or ESF - all good with fab english speaking instructors.

Plus there is a lot for the intermediate skiers too - Etale and Balme are fab palygrounds with lovely long reds and blues and easy off-piste if you fancy a dabble in the powder.

The best bit is it's fab for weekends as it's so close to Geneva (only an hour), so if you fly thursday morning you can be on the slopes at lunch time, or if you come Thurs night you get all day Fri, Sat and Sun (returning on a late flight).

There are a couple of weekend UK run ski chalets in La Clusaz www.gravite.co.uk or www.skiweekender.co.uk in St Jean (2.5km from La Clusaz)

Megeve is great and a very special resort. Excellent intermediate skiing and great restaurants on the mountain and in the town. If you like jazz try the Cinq Rues Club.
