 Poster: A snowHead

In the past I have used the ski school in the resort whenever I have been on holiday and feel that not much much progress is made from one year to the next with my technique. Therefore next year a friend and I were thinking of trying a more specialised ski school like New Generation.
Has anyone used New Generation, they seem to get a lot of good reviews on their website?

I've used NewGen on and off for a number of years. The experience has always been positive, although the downside is that NewGen, like other British ski schools, tends to be more expensive than the local ESF and other schools. What resort were you thinking of visiting? A few resorts in France have British ski schools which get similar positive reviews to NewGen.

You can easily ski to Vallandry from the other Les Arcs villages, but it would be tricky to get there in time for the first lesson of the day (9.15am I think). If you book the second start time (11.30am?) there's no problem with getting to Vallandry.

That is useful to know as I felt that Les Arc is probably the most suitable resort.

The skiing in Les Arcs is very good and caters for all grades of skier, although not the best place if you want 'chocolate-box pretty' villages. Another good choice for your group might be Courchevel which has lots of easy terrain across the entire valley, as well as plenty of good runs to progress on to. It also has some very good ski schools including NewGen and Supreme Ski.

Just got back from Courchevel and myself and Mrs Monkfish had group lessons with New Generation (2 separate groups)
Was very impressed, both of us have made a lot of progress during the week, high quality tuition imho. From what I saw of the other New Gen
teachers in Courch they seemed to know what they were doing too.

EmmaA, I shadowed a NewGen class a couple of years ago in Vallandry (more stalk than shadow) and I'm the first to decry my ski skills but I do know a fair bit about lesson structuring and constructive interaction with the student and I was VERY impressed with how the tutor kept track of each individual student's response to instruction to provided a tailored comment to the individual at the same time as moving the group along a class programme. It may well have been the skill of the instructor (John Thomas ?I think) but it was a joy to watch half a dozen middle-aged intermediates markedly improve on each run.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

He's the head of the NewGen branch in Vallandry. He's taught me a couple of times and I've also shadowed some of his lessons/feedback sessions and would agree that he's a terrific teacher.

We used New Gen last week in Courchevel. Lots of stuff happened that impressed me but suffice to say, they got the thumbs up from everyone, from the enthusiastic kids to the 'healthily cynical' adults.
I would recommend though that, once you've decided to use them, you book ahead. They have imposed a strict limit upon themselves regarding how many instructors they employ in each resort. The aim is to maintain tight control over quality of service but with their reputation growing so fast, the result is that it can be hard to get a place during busy weeks.

you can book lessons online with newgen and i believe select an instructor as well should there be more than one available at your desired time
i would recommend the technical clinics they are great value for money and hav small class sizes.

EmmaA, if you were to go to Courchevel, then you also have the option of Supreme if NewGen are full. IMO they are just as good, the comments here about NewGen could apply equally well to Supreme

EmmaA, bit late to thread, but used New Gen for the kids in Vallandry. Was very impressed with their set-up and general care of kids.
Vallandry is a nice resort and is easy to access all of Les Arcs and across to LP as well if required. Depends on your requirements but we choose Vallandry as is quieter and more family friendly

We had some lessons (private and clinics) with New Gen in 1850. They were very good. However, the best instruction I've ever had has been in Lech, Austria. They really kick ass and push you.

I'm with cathy here - John Thomas from New Gen in Les Arcs was an excellent instructor when I did the Snoworks courses (Race and Technical) in November last year. Nice bloke, great instruction, great care to look after people in his group. I can't recommend him highly enough.
