Some of these snow ads are brilliant aren't they? Can't see me ever needing the product, but its great advertising. I know its not the product being advertised but aren'those skins brilliant the way they let the skis be pushed uphill. Do they entirely eliminate the tendancy to slide backwards as the video footage suggests.

Am I right in assuming that
1) when the binding is shifted back then it's in BCT mode and the heel is then free (i.e. the binding cannot be moved back and skied woth the heel locked)?
2) the duke only takes an alpine sole and there's no manual toe height adjustment?

DaveC, I 've just realised, skiing isn't the same thing to us all. I dont ski backwards though, there's only one reverse gear on a car and all that. It's time to get back to my roots, baby. Dick.

Yes I do care. Don't wish to slide down the mountain when my alpine boots have the soles caked up with snow & ice again. It cost me a new jacket and I had to change my underpants afterwards.
Putting a vibram sole on a set of alpine boots is always an option though as the dukes wouldn't be used for long tours so the walk mode wouldn't be that critical.

While ski-touring you don't ski up hill, you walk up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ski_touring

er... i'm gonna contradict the small one here on question 2. the toe height adjustment works by moving the AFD up and down rather than the toepiece. check this out:

Arno, Shite, i was in M11/12/14 mode. Yes DB the toe height's adjustable, i'd refer the 'Right Honerable Gentleman' to the first post in this case.

I'd like to know the answer to that one as well.

Just for clarity those walking up hills will be using skins on the bottom of their skis, which enables them to walk up and forwards, but then need taking off to ski down.
