My daughter will be training for her TT this winter, and I guess her dynorod 8000s just aren't going to cut it, any thoughts on a suitable early xmas present.

What typical terrain does she ski? What is her current level of skill? What's her typical technique? What conditions does she typically ski?

jbob, if she's training for TT then she needs full on slalom race skis, irrespective of what she uses for the rest of her skiing (and yes the 8000s, great skis that they are, will be completely unsuitable). rjs or LARGEZOOKEEPER are probably best placed to answer that, so if neither of them post soon, ask them by PM (private message, click on Send/Read Messages below the logo at the top of this screen). They'll probably need to know her weight and whether she's a finesse or muscle skier to point you in the right direction. IIRC the usual recommendations are Fischer and Volkl for heavier skiers, Dynastar and Salomon for lighter, and Atomic, Head in the middle (but don't hold me to that). You may wish to consider Stockli as they make superb skis (at a price, but I have seen special offers on them around atm), although not generally readily available in the UK.

Likes skiing the whole mountain on her fat skis but this winter she hopes to train hard for her sl test for the next level of ski instructors exams hence the new skis.
She is light and very smooth on her skis, but will most likely have to ski far more aggressively when race training. As for typical conditions she will be skiing the whole season in europe so if next year is like last it will be mostly hard pack.

jbob, Why not get her to buy her own skis through the BASI deal. There was a thread here discussing some of the options.
All 155cm race slalom skis will be designed for girlie weights.

? Do the skis need to be FIS approved for racing to do the tests? All this talk of race training and testing strikes me as a bit thin on the details and how it's relevant between recreational and race designed skis, surely personal skill and technique is partially dependent on the ski structure and shape?

beanie1, The only requirements for slalom is that they are longer than 155cm (for women) and at least 63mm wide. You can ski on whatever you want, but will be a lot faster on something designed for the job.
The main difference between recreational and race skis is in torsional stiffness. It is hard to get the confidence to use large edge angles on a softer ski.
