Skiing is a sport that at best is done with the minimal of stresses. The emotional baggage many people bring with them on holiday or for the Sport can cause them a great deal of problems.
I have uncovered a site that deals with these stresses on a more general scale and would ask all of you, irrespective of perceived emotional state, to follow the programme and review your progress as a skier thereafter.
Good Luck, stick with it, please.

SMALLZOOKEEPER, I find skiing clears the mind because if I think about anything else I fall over. Doesn't everyone?

Will this stop my anxiety about skiing with people who are thinner and/or better skiers than I am? I know it's unreasonable but can't help it.

Yes, that's my experience as well. But there are some days when my head is just not in the right place for skiing, and on those occasions I find it's best to finish early and do something else.

One of the things I learnt last season was that I ski best when I'm angry. Often, when I reached the point of "right I'll show you, you..." I'd ski with the fluency and ease that would be missing when I was calm and relaxed. I suspect this is because the anger helped me get in touch with the instinctive bits of my skiing that I know are in there.

PhillipStanton, that works in short bursts for me - eg after making a mess of a section of off-piste, I'll bully myself into attacking the next section with whatever panache I can muster. That can be enough to switch me into a different mode - I don't think I can keep the anger itself going for long though.

I don't know about emotional baggage occupying my thoughts, but already I have noticed that I actually ski better if my kids are on the slope with me - I think its because I'm looking out for them with part of my mind and concentrating less on what I am doing so instinct takes over, and although I've not got much to go on yet I seem to ski better then (either that or part of my mind isn't so much on the fear factor )

SMALLZOOKEEPER, a good site - I recommend it to my punters frequently. Having said that - skiing is probably the time when I am sanest and most relaxed.

Nothing clears the mind of emotional baggage quicker than staring down in to the abyss and silently mouthing "f*ck f*ck I'm going to die".

JT exactly, but I think you may have that* the wrong way 'round: skiing IS a good way to find emotional baggage you've hidden from yourself at other times.

comprex, if she can't ski...she is not in the frame..and if she does ski but still has all that, then I'd say she should be put down...
