Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Your call. The airlines are getting tighter. Pack your ski-bag with other than skis and poles at your risk. Thank you for flying green. Have a nice day.

Do they mind if you cram two pairs of skis into one bag? (or more to the point, put 2 pairs of skis in a snowboard bag)
When I fly out to Canada (with Air Canada) in january, I want to take both pairs of skis with me (given im out there for 12wks.)

the_fatadder, as long as you are not over the ski bag weight limit, if there is one, you should be ok,

It's never been a prob for me as I take skis and a board but as achilles, has noted, the airlines are getting greedy as margins (apparently) shrink. As long as your ski-bag and your total baggage is kept within your allowance you shouldn't have a problem. Ski bags are usually put through the oversize portal and the guys operating that are not worried about what's in the bag as long as the right tags are on it and it meets security standards.

Oh, and can I mention that you're a £*!!+^$S . . . 12 weeks indeed Evil or Very Mad

I have been questioned at Geneva, as to the contents of my ski-bag, I lied and told the check in staff it was just one pair. They insisted on weighing the bag. Net gain for the airline, nothing, as the bag was only subject to their maximum luggage weight restrictions, of which it was under. This was B.A. jobsworths BTW.

I've got away with 4 pairs of skis in one bag a few times. Trouble is it's so heavy it kills your shoulder.

shouldn't, haven't, should be...

I've never had trouble but have heard of folks being made to remove all but board/boots or skis/boots and then having to pay excess on the "bag" of extra stuff

caveat emptor

As I'm using shorter skis now I've been toying with the idea of a big snowboard style bag instead of seperate holdall & ski bags.
I reckon one of those with wheels would be easier to schlep around than having to move 2 bags. Flying Easyjet as I usually do I'd be paying extra for ski carriage anyway so could pack everything into it (up to the inclusive 32kg limit when paying for ski carriage) rather than spreading it across both bags as I do at the moment.

FenlandSkier, the only trouble with that, is the potential of losing absolutely all your luggage, instead of just some of it! I try and divide my belongings between skibag and case, with a view to ensuring that I can get on the slopes with minimum hassle/expense, even if part of my luggage gets lost in transit. That's the theory, anyway.
