Poster: A snowHead

Thinking of doing two weeks in Austria this Christmas and considering Mayrhofen in Austria for the first week as it is nearer (from Amsterdam).
Some accommodations offer a 6-day super ski pass but the Zillertal skiing resort web site doesn't describe it much, except it is for the whole Zillertal. Going up Hinterlux glacier to ski apparently costs more.
Anybody knows if the super ski covers Hinterlux too?
How about the food from half board in Austria guest houses? My previous trips in Austria have been self catering or eating out.
Not deciding on the second week yet but thinking of Ischgl and Solden area. Could be difficult to get accommodation for the New year week.

Hi Saikee
Went mayrhofen twice last year, the ski pass is good vaule for money, you get access to all ski fields, this includes transportion.
Hintertux bus only min ride , does not cost more, collection point is the train station. In addition I recomend you use the train service to other ski areas. you will have a choice of four to five areas to ski , under twenty minutes to most ski fields from mayrhofen by train.
The train station in mayr is the last stop from innsbruch so they have to travel thru the other resorts at a regular timetable and your ski pass will allow to to travel on the train free of charge, its all good. Nice place, good food, good bars and cafes, you will like it.
This place offers real value for your money.

If the lift pass you're referring to is the salzburger super ski pass, then it covers the Zillertal arena (Gerlos, Koenigsleiten, Krimml etc) but not Mayrhofen or Hintertux. Gerlos is on the Salzburg/Tirol border so that's why it's included. Mayrhofen/Hintertux are in Tirol.

The Zillertal Superski pass will cover you for the following areas:
Zillertal 3000 (this is the ski area of Mayrhofen)
Zillertal Arena (Zell, Gerlos, Koenigsleiten)
Hoch Zillertal (Kaltenbach, Hoch Fuegen, Fuegen)
Hintertux Glacier
This is a fantastic value ski pass which in total has over 600km of runs and allows you to get on teh train/bus between resorts.

Thanks for the info. The area seems to be spread out a bit.

saikee, it is spread out but it only took us 30 mins to travel up to the glacier from Mayrhofen and then 30 mins down the other way to Kaltenbach. The other major areas are all inbetween and offer a day or more of skiing with several on the Penken/Finkenberg area itself. Mayrhofen is the best place to base yourself.
