Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

cramp

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Woke up this morning and stretched before getting up - bad cramp in my right calf muscle, which is now quite sore. Made for a slower cycle into work (51mins fro ~15miles) and I've still got to cycle home.

Question is, any reason fro the cramp and any way to stop it happening in the future? In the past month I've done a couple of long (1hr) rollerski races in hot conditions and I've been cycling and rollerskiing a fair bit in between races, but apart from the races I've not done a lot diferent to normal.

Slight dehydration and electrolyte loss? Chew a calcium antacid.

I think its a build up of lactic acid in the muscles isn't it? I find if I wake I sometimes I can tell if my calf is about to cramp and can sometimes stop it from happening by 'thinking' the muscle to relax and flexing the toes towards my tummy.

More water as comprex, says is probably a good idea - I haven't heard of chewing a calcium antacid before, but it makes sense if it is an acid build up.

Not meant for acid build up so much as for replacement of electrolytes other than those in table salt.

Isn't gin and tonic meant to be good for cramp wink

I have that every morning and sometimes in the night too, usually left leg; my calf muscles are permanently tight Sad The real killer though, is the cramp I get at the base of a toe with no warning: absolute flossing agony, that is - and when it happens it can last up to half an hour Sad Would love a solution
