Poster: A snowHead

We're thinking of heading to the hills for a week or two in the summer. We'll almost certainly be driving (so we can take the blasted dog), so France is favourite. Any recommendations? We're not expecting to ski; walking (seriousish, but stopping short of being roped up), rafting, via ferrata, that sort of thing. A decent number of lifts would be good, and a swimming pool. Self catering the most likely choice (do French apartments usually allow hounds?). A pretty village preferred to a purpose built job, I think.
We've previously stayed in Klosters and Villeneuve (aka Serre Chevalier) in the summer, and jolly nice they were too. A ski resort is not essential at all, but is likely to have more lifts (I guess). A reasonably pretty village preferred to a purpose built job, I think, maybe a small resort off the average British skier's radar.
Thanks.

richmond, I'd have been straight in for a pimp if it hadn't been for your hound. I *think* our next door neighbours accept animals though, so if you take a look at the '.' in my sig and like what you see I could put you in touch. Their apt is 86m2 to our puny 52m2 but summer prices are very reasonable anyway.

richmond, what about Bohinj in Slovenia? Mountains all around for walking, climbing, via ferrata etc. Lake Bohinj for swimming, canoeing & boating. Local rivers offering fairly tame rafting, Soca river further afield for more serious stuff. We stayed in Stara Fužina last year, which is a lovely village 5 minutes walk from Lake Bohinj.
We only drove there from Italy, rather than all the way from the UK, but there were plenty of English, Dutch and French cars around, so it is perfectly feasible.

brian, thanks, looks very pleasant indeed. If your neighbour takes dogs (he's very friendly and civilised), we could be interested. Judging by your place, your neighbours will have the necessary 2 bedrooms.
richardt, I hadn't thought of Slovenia, but I'll give it a look.
Thanks.
