 Poster: A snowHead

Hey fellow Snowheaders,
After much deliberation and anticipation my new skis arrived today. I decided on the K2 Comanche 5 Coms which come with the above bindings. I did not realise that the bindings would not actually be mounted on the skis, instead they come seperately packaged. It would appear that the front and rear bindings simply slide over the plastic plate which is mounted to the ski. You then slide the bindings to the appropriate marking for your boot length and secure the 3 screws, 1 at the front and 2 at the rear.
Has anybody done this with the above bindings or similar? I cant see how else they are secured.

thedavman, That's exactly how to do it.
Then set the forward pressure (the lower screw in the back of the heel piece) so the screw is flush with the housing when your boot is installed. I'd recommend only turning the screw with the boot removed & then click the boot back in the bindings to check etc.
Then set the toe & heel piece DINS to your either your DIN chart setting or chosen setting.

Cheers for putting my mind at rest Jon, much appreciated confirmation. Once i have skied them (Flaine Chrsitmas 2007) i will be in touch to purchase the necessary for tuning/ servicing them myself, your website has been an eye openber as to just how much goes into it. In the meantime should i do anything to them prior to skiing in 6 months?
Finally, out of curiosity, what does the centre piece of the front binding do? Is it for telemarking or similar?

I could do loads to them but I'm a bit anal about such things  . As a minimum I'd recommend having them waxed - & even better if your local store can do them by hand with an iron rather than a machine wax.

Not sure which bit you mean but telemark bindings are totally different to Alpine bindings. Do you mean the silver 'plate' just in front of the toe piece? If so, that's the AFD (Anti Friction Device). The underside of the boots sits on that & under high twisting forces the plate swings out to the side to ensure the boots releases cleanly from the toe piece.

Sorry, i should have been more specific. What i meant was the centre of the plastic plate to which the binging attaches. In the middle of the plate there is ahollow with a small purple coloured plastic thing?

thedavman,  . Dunno. I've nothing like that on the same bindings on the Burnin' Luv's I'm examining at the moment. I'll have a look at other Markers at the ski test this Sat & let you know. Can you post a pic?
