Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Paintballs hit Meribel

Meribel, that most English of French ski resorts, says that it's celebrating its 60th anniversary this winter [shurely shome mistake? France was in the midst of a world war!].
Anyway, it's marking the big occasion with lots of new features: two re-modelled snowparks, a 'family snowpark' (for children aged 5 to 12), a replacement of the Plan de l'Homme chairlift with a detachable 6-seater, and lots more snowmaking...

And - hence the headline - paintballing is coming to Meribel! (which could add a whole new spectrum to yellow snow).

Now, about that Meribel history. Here's another version, from MeribelExperience.com, correctly attributing the founding of the ski resort to Peter Lindsay (a Scotsman). His main passion is said to have been the construction and operation of ski lifts, and the first one (according to that timeline) was installed in 1938.

Does anyone have any other historical info. on Meribel?

There's an interseting page here on the development of the Trois Vallees from a French perspective; the emphasis is on Courchevel while it makes passing reference to English investors' involvement in the Allues valley.
