I have been suffering from pain in the soles and arches of my feet for some time now (since July). This pain radiates up both legs to my knees (causing pain in my knees as well) and then basically up towards the tops of my legs at the groin area. I am seeing my podiatrist at the moment and have tried various insoles, etc. Now waiting to be referred to a specialist.
Has anyone experienced any of these things and does anyone have any suggestions what I can use (in the way of insoles, etc) to help when I ski.
Hopefully, my pains will have gone (at least a bit) before I start skiing.

jb1970, I couldn't say about your problem - I have pain in the balls of my feet when it gets warm, as do many instructors. However it sounds very nasty. I think you should try to see a sports physio asap.
I went to a podiatrist (specially trained with extra biomechanics modules etc.), she was also a skier. The insoles she made up for me caused bursas and bone spurs in addition to everything else! OUTCH. On the other hand I've found sports physios consistenly good all over.

jb1970, Did your podiatrist make a diagnosis? The reason I ask is your problem sounds suspiciously like that of one of my students who has plantar fasciitis. My student, a cross country ski marathoner, uses custom orthotics to support the foot and alleviate that part of the problem. However, she tells me she has learned to live with the pain.
Just a thought with a caveat--I am a ski instructor not an M.D.

Thanks to everyone who got back to me. I am going to see my Podiatrist again in 2 weeks' time so we will see what happens then. I think a lot of it is down to trial and error. Will keep you posted.

welcome to my world ! I have flat feet and always have but it only became a problem after completeing a charity half marathon 4 years ago. Ankles swelled, knees hurt amd back was torture. Initially I saw a physio who treated my swelling knees and ankles with ultra sound (just three sessions) then I had some manipulation for my back - I think about 6 visits coupled with some custom orthotics - I have changed tack slightly over the last 6 months and now see a Chiropractor - they (and the physio before to be fair) gave me some good core body strengthining excersises which I initially could'nt be bothered with but after several relapses I perservered and I have to say I have improved to 90% normality - incredible. IMHO there is no magic bullet but orthotics (only good ones not the cheaper foam ones) have provided me with any thing like long term help. Helens link is a good one and as it says at the end losing weight also helps. The goodish news is that in ski boots the foot is reasonable immobile so as long as you have a good footbed (poss/prob custom made)then you will have little problems. oh and try and avoid jumping on hard surfaces like dry slopes until you have good footbeds too.
