Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Val d'Isere black run

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
I was in VD in Jan and there's a black run (near the scary fairground ride-esque chair called Olympique, I think) that was closed due to lack of snow.

I understand it goes through the rock and away from the main valley through to another further out valley?

Apologies if I'm not making myself very clear, but I wonder if it opened at all this season (am sure it must have) and if anyone has any photos of it?

Thanks,

Dave

jesus, welcome to snowHead s. I suppose it's an appropriate time of year for you to make a surprise appearance Laughing

Is that the up and over chair between the Solaise and Fornet sectors ? There's a very steep drag and a small tunnel leading to a black run down the other side ? (or used to be, I haven't been very recently).

Hi there,

Indeed, and thanks very much for the welcome! ...I've been lurking for most of the season since I stumbled across this most interesting forum!

Yes that's the chair (poss my favourite Alpine chairlift) and the drag is indeed up to the side.

jesus,
Welcome to snowHead 's, the run is or was called tunnel. I have never skied it as it has always been closed on my visits though I gather it is fairly steep when open.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

there was a thread on here earlier in the season about this run / lift - tried to find it last night but couldn't but the consenus if I recall is that the tunnel at least hasn't been open for a few seasons, I can only recall once in a number of trips to VDI ever seeing the 3000 drag running - some kind SH will I'm sure put a pointer into the previous thread

I've been going to Tignes/Val d'Isere for years and I've never seen it open. Love the updated Lessiers lift though!

I saw the lift running this season after some heavy snow. It wasn't open to the public though and the only people skiing the run were pisteurs, which seemed a little unfair!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I was in Val D'Isere in a year of good snow but no, the "Tunnel" wasn't open.
Everyone was asking about it as looks so intriguing on the trail map.
