When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Austrian avalanche expert blows himself up on ski slope

An Austrian avalanche expert committed suicide by blowing himself up with 15 kilograms of explosives normally used for the controlled detonation of avalanches. Police in the ski resort of Zuers in western Austria confirmed that the man had taken his own life Monday evening when he blew himself up near a ski lift.
...Other people were not endangered. The man had access to the explosives because of his profession.

Another fatal accident happened yesterday in St Anton. A group of people skied down the piste at 8 o'clock in the evening, three hours after the runs were officially closed.
One of them was skiing behind the Pistebully in operation. The driver of the vehicle couldn't notice the skier behind him and stopped suddendly. And then put the machine in reverse and then drove backwards. The 38-year-old German had no chance ...
