Just got back - train runs every hour from GVA airport - change at Visp. Takes about 3-1/2 hours & costs 178 chF return (just over £75)
check the swissrail timetables at http://www.sbb.ch/en/

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

flexrip, I think it's about 90 CHF by rail (one way) from the airport. I guess there could be buses which may be cheaper, but I don't know anything about them.
Here's the Swiss Rail site in English.

flexrip, you need a Swiss Transfer Ticket from Swiss Rail. You need to order it about 10 days before you travel and it gives you travel from Geneva to Zermatt and back for, I think, about £55.

flexrip, I second the idea of a Swiss Transfer Ticket, and just want to clarify that it is only good from the airport to a resort and then straight back again. Additionally, they can only be purchased outside of Switzerland, so don't wait to buy one there. I would imagine the Swiss Centre in London would sell them or tell you where you can get them. Travel agents can probably get them too.
