Poster: A snowHead
|
I tried out some software on my iPAQ whilst away
http://www.navideo.de/
It seemed to work ok, I have created some logs that I can load into Google Earth (however I appear to float in the air, I guess down to the snow depth??)
What else can I do with these files?
I'll try and upload the files shortly...
cheers,
Greg

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Greg, was your GPS altitude set correctly?

kitenski, what format are the files? The zone will only unzip into the formats which you can upload normally - jpg, gif etc.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

You'll need to Register first of course.

kitenski, reason I wondered is that I have a Magellan GPS and had to calibrate it by entering the altitude at either sea level or at one of the triangulation points on the downs! Once I'd done that it could then tell me what altitude I was at.

I've been playing around with such things recently, I use this to capture tracks:
http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/
And then I use this:
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/
To put them onto Google Earth backgrounds. Resulting in this:
http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/ianhopkinson/008ValThorens07apr07/photo#5053643352127029906
(I have a feeling you may have pointed me at GPS Vizualiser). GPS Visualiser gives you the option to fix the altitude to the surface as defined by Google Earth, which sort of ignores any floating problems. I'm thinking I should be able to location tag photos by using the time signal from the GPS to the time a photo was taken. I'm sure there's some interesting things to be done with the rest of the trace data (time on lift / time on piste, time between stops when skiing, time in lift queues)- some programming required though...
