Poster: A snowHead

Howdy folks!
I'm hoping to pick up an end of sale bargain here. I'm a solid intermediate looking for a new set of planks on which to develop my carving technique. My exisitng skis i've had from new are volkl unlimited s1 @ 170cm. They're dependable and very safe and all that but, after trying some hire skis last week in ADH, i've realised that they've pretty much served their purpose. Anyhoo, i'm scouting around for essentially a piste-oriented carving ski that will also be sufficiently fogiving for the odd bit of powder and occaisional off piste giggle.
I know this process can end up with an extremely long short list but thus far the Fischer RX6 and Salomon Streetracer 8 seem to push the right buttons. So, does anyone have:
a) experience of said skis
b) good reason for considering another model
c) know of a store/individual selling em (i'm perfectly happy to buy well looked after used skis)
Many thanks in advance - looking forward to your input
Ian

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

ian010, Don't 'under buy' as most higher end models are perfectly skiable for a solid intermediate & they'll give you plenty of room to develop, ie Fischer RX8 rather than the RX6 etc.
This is the time to buy with all the end of season deals becoming available & you tend to get better deals on the higher models.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Errrmmm, how about Elan Magfire 10 - excellent all-mountain ski. Oops, have I mentioned this ski before?

And if you are intererested in RX 8`s (or indeed RX 6`s) check e-bay or Ski Bilek (?). German vendors are selling them off at amazing prices. I picked up some RX8s for £265 (Ellis Brigham £465). Another pair of RX8`s went for £170 a week later.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Maybe the Crossmax 10 would meet your requirements.
My one and only ski for the last few years.
On piste a great ski the best ski I have ever owned, super fast carving, great fun, real rocketships.
Off piste equally as good for me in a 180 length,Nice width under foot,Floats well due to the length and stiffness in powder,Great fun everywhere.
Regards Mark
