I just dont believe it either !
Broke my arm second day of my week in Les Menuires, second week in Tigne trip.
Started brilliantly too
DAY ONE Sunday 18th March
AV Risk 2/3
Woke early met my private guide Paul Conte from ESF in Les Menuires.
Weather sunny no cloud.
Took Masse 1 and 2 to the Pointe De La Masse at 2804.
The Vallon Du Lou looked like a piste down the direct route so Paul said we trek acrosss
the ridge right round to the back face Mont Du Chat i think to find some untracked snow.
Took about half an hour or so to get round there but once we arrived sure enough it was worth it
Spring Like snow and little tracks. It was hard work though totally knackered when we got there and
iv'e been running 3 times a week 4 miles a night for years now !.
It sure is a very pictuesque and quiet decent not too steep for a first day either which I have
to say I was a little woried about.
From the end of the valley run we took the Plan De L'eau lift / Moutiere lift and decended into Val Thorens central.
Followed by Plein Sud / Bououetin Lifts to Mt De La Chambre.
From here we started to decend 4 Vents but then cut off piste to the right heading towards and under the Bruyeres
Gondala across to Les Menuires learning differant techniques for differant snow conditions in well tracked snow in places. It was nice though.Paul is an excellent technical instuctor and a very likeable person.
A great first day and with two weeks of this to enjoy im a very happy chappie
Fresh snow Due tonight (This mother of all dumps thing lol) Paul says 40cm due for sure ! Cant wait till tommorow.
We are meeting early at half 8 to be the first up the mountain.

Unlucky mate, join the club. It looks as though there are going to be quite a few members before the season is over.

Day Two Monday 19th March
It strated snowing about 8pm last night.I awoke to find a lovely fresh blanket covering everything,(mother of all dumps lol)and good visabilty.
Got up well excited and made my way eagerly to my meeting point.
Paul was allready there waiting for me.
The snow as Paul predicted was perfect 40cm of fresh powder o la la.
We took the Roc des 3 Marches gondala up and did a quick off piste decent down to La violette piste as a warm up.
First two tracks were ours ,thats so sweet when you look back !
The real destination was again La Masse but they were still blasting and the LaC Noir chair would not be running
first thing.
Sure enough when we arrived there we had a 5 min wait fair enough.
First two up again.
From the top we trecked off to the right towards Les Encombres we spoke about the danger level briefly.
Paul insisted i must do exactually as he says at all times today as the AV IS NOW 4/5.I cannot remember the name
of the decent (elisee maybe somebody know?) but it ends down in the small village of Le Bettex.
It was great deep deep snow all the way,the best i have ever had ever!
Then disaster !
We made are way to the top of Mont de la chambre and trekked off to the right down through david doullet piste and litterally
straight down deep deep powder all the way waist deep in places.
Just by the becca chair we stoped.
My legs were gone and i should have stopped.
Paul said ok i said yes and off again we went.
I dont know what exactly happened it was all so fast but i lost it big time on a slight but not too steep section.
I remember my skis going from under me the next i was tumbling face first snow air snow air.
The second i stopped i knew my arm was broken !
poo-poo poo-poo poo-poo, i dont believe this.
Paul dug me out quickly but he knew it was not good.
The medical centre confirmed x ray broken humerous bone (hardly) and various bumps / ache's.
Well after that i just wanna go home.
straight back to apartment load up car and head off home arm in sling snowing again by now.
I had to stop for a sleep on the way back at reims before catching the the 3.25am shuttle back this morning they stung me for
another £78
So here i sit in my home very pissed off with just a dozen photos to show.
Im gonna get pissed now sod it.
May just make the EOSB if lucky .
Regards Mark

Topsmoke, Bad Luck !
Was it the arm you use to write or are you ambidextrous ?

Topsmoke, Hope you haven't got a hangover! At least you have the memories of those wonderful powder descents which is more than a lot of us can say for Europe this winter. Do hope the arm mends quickly.
