Hey guys
I'm off to Les Houches in the morning - anyone in area at the moment that could comment on the current nick of the snow?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Hmm, doesn't sound too promising then! Should we be heading up the valley a bit? It's my mates first trip & I need some gentle stuff for him.

Head high. I was in Cham at the weekend. Les Houches must be pretty nasty as it was raining to over 2000m. SMALLZOOKEEPER's advice is good.

Diarmuid, not on Sunday it wasn't. Lovely spring snow to be had at Le Tour and the GMs looked awesome except that we'd slept in and the car park was full...had to drive to Vallorcine instead.

David Murdoch, Yea I know I was in GM on Sunday and it was great, however it was raining to 2000+ on Friday&Monday, I can't imagine Les Houches being great after that. I could be wrong though.

Diarmuid, Very nice. I am going to try and get up early tomorrow and get there before the queues do...
But Re Les Houches, after much skiing in Morzine and environs, although rain can indeed have a devastating impact on snow, the white stuff is remarkably resilient and it's been quite cold overnight most of the week (I believe). This is from the top of Bellevue http://www.ski-leshouches.com/cam/iryfipasykiz.php?redim=1 and checking the website most things look to be open.

Just back from a mixed day at Le Tour. HIgh winds meant the bubble was running v. slow and the queue was big. So we slipped round to Vallorcine again. Cloudy that side although probably about 10cm fresh overnight. Skied some mixed snow on the Le Tour side before a couple of very fast piste runs down the poma that sort of points away from everything else. Sorry I haven't got the hang of the names yet, may never do.
Pistes looked great although didn't spend a great deal of time one them. Off-ish piste on the Vallorcine side was heaps of fun if cruddy. Not everyone is likely to appreciate it.
So all in all everything in good shape.
Blue skies forecast for the morning..

Well, I was a lucky boy. Got up to Les Houches top station on Saturday morning to find 15cm of fresh snow, blue skies & hardly another soul around! Had super weekend skiing & my mate came on leaps & bounds over such a short space of time.
Sounds like it was pretty windy around the rest of the Chamonix ski areas over the weekend but it was all pretty calm & sunny down at LH.
Things got a little slushy lower down in the afternoon but overall it was an excellent trip. Now, Saas-Fee in a couple of weeks - here's hoping.....
