Byron Gates, you should be discussing this with your doctor/surgeon. Only he/she knows the full details of your injury, and only she/he can advise you about your return to skiing.

If the cast does come off tomorrow, defintely this year. Note that I say "if". I've had a friend who went to the doctor and was told she had to keep it on for a bit longer because the bones were not healing as fast as expected.
Assuming the bones heal and the cast is off, could be as early as May. It depends very much on how hard you work to re-gain those lost muscles.

only your doctor can tell you. Its your call but not sure I'd be risking my leg in the european ski season in your circumstances. Chile or NEw Zealand then

I would say it a lot depends upon your age and the type of break.

Didn't you say elsewhere that your seventh decade has just begun? I clocked that because that makes you one of the few ski-nutters older than me!
Whatever, I wish you the very best. I had a bad medial injury two years ago and thought that was me finished as a skier. Take it easy. There will be plenty of snow next year!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Its been 3 days since i'v had my cast off. I'v walked about a mile, & driven a car. The doc said to try things when i felt ready. I'v got a season pass for Zell am See which runs out half way through April. so I would like to try an easy blue run before then.
