Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Sole length/mondo size of Salomon X-Wave 10 boots

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi,

Can anyone help me with the mondo size of my old Salomon X-Wave 10 boots? The sole length is 315mm and they are about 4 years old. The liner says '275 26 SB' on it, so maybe they are 27.5, but I'm pretty sure my feet aren't 26. I'd like to know as I'm ordering a new pair of Falcon Race boots to try, and I'm not completely sure what size I need.

I know a trip to snowandrock would sort me out, but it's 50 miles away rolling eyes

Also, does anyone have any experience of the Falcons compared to the X-Wave 10 in terms of fit? I've heard they are a little narrower and a little stiffer.

Thanks! snowHead

A 315 mm sole length is a 27/27.5 for both the XWave and the Falcon, so you can stay with the same size.

However, the Falcons are indeed narrower and lower volume, so be careful if you were happy with the fit of your XWaves.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks skibomb,

My old xwaves very very comfortable , but my feet did feel a little lost in them. Hopefully these'll fit nicely. I just bought them from Ski-Bilek for £96, so if they don't fit I'm sure I can sell them on again (£325 in S&R)! snowHead

iblair, If you were 'swimming' in the XWaves, these might be better I suppose. Only time and your feet will tell....

In terms of stiffness, I don't know which stiffness rating version you have bought, but you can soften them a bit if need be by removing the canting lock screws at the back - this makes 5-10% difference.

I used the Falcons for the first time last weekend. The first couple of hours on the Friday and Saturday were VERY painful, but after that, and for the last whole of the last couple of days, these boots were soooo comfortable. They are definitely the best I've had - so much lighter than the X-Wave 10's and my Rossy 9.1 Race Pros. The thin leather lines are very warm and comfy. They are significantly narrower, but now I find I don't need ski socks and they fit like a glove. I'd definitely recommend them to any skiers into racing and fast carving, although they did make the off piste a bit more physically challenging. snowHead
