Channel 4's ski coverage this Sunday (16 Jan) is scheduled to include a feature on the Ski Club. Presenter Nick Fellows meets Ski Club rep James Cove - who works for BBC News and is now a Ski Club director - and sees what the repping service is all about.
The transmission starts at 8am. More info on this from ifyouski.com
If anyone has any comments I'm sure the Club and James would be interested to see them. The repping service continues to attract lots of new candidates - 48 of them at the latest training course in Tignes. Here's a report on that from the Club's website.

Spent two separate days with the reps in Plagne, arrived home 15th Jan & saw that piece. Fairly accurate representation of the repping service. In my case, I couldn't fault the Plagne rep's ability, guiding skill, or choice of runs. Thoroughly enjoyed myself, well worth the membership fee in my opinion.
Few years of practice yet before I'm rep quality myself tho ....

Anyone else see the item? A lot of work obviously goes into that Channel 4 ski hour, and it has lots of diversity (including Chemmy Alcott's wild video diary!), but how many snowHeads dragged themselves out of bed at 8am on Sunday? Maybe some viewing figures for the show are available.
From memory, Ski Sunday did several million in its heyday.

I saw it. Have to be up at that time anyway. Well presented show. And C S-T and James Cove came across well. Agree with you about Chemmy's diary. Glad manda had a great time. Looking forward to being out in the snow myself, in the not too distant future. snowheads is fun. Skiing is better.

David Goldsmith, Some of don't have to drag ourselves out of bed as we have a video recorder. (And before you blokes say anything - yes I can programme it!) I thought it was good.

The only benefit that I can see to getting Sky+. You can programme it up to a week in advance by pressing 1 button!! (not that I can afford it )

Elizabeth B, and it's a great benefit. With a 'series link' you can get it to record all transmissions of the same programme until it fills up. The recordings are original digital quality. You also get to miss the adverts. I'd start saving...

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Well I watch the Channel 4 show on a Sunday morning from the comfort of my bed - as soon as it finishes we have to rush to get up as we normally have a squash court booked for 9.30. I do wonder how much Chemmy's video is for the benefit of the guys - do we really need to see her getting ready for a relaxing bath with candles etc???? What happened to the video clips of her training & before/after races?

Cathy Coins, believe it or not I agree, thought it was a bit tacky even if she is a good looking girl

Blast! Forgot all about it. And a bit of soft porn on a Sunday morning sounds a great way to start the day.
Candles indeed!

Mr HH reaction to Channel 4 promo for Ski Club....."Wouldn't give that lot a penny!" Why should the rep be surprised....or comment that....the ladies with fur trim got on with lorry drivers?? Good grief, I thought the class system was dead and buried? We all have one thing in common, we love skiing - especially those who go with the reps I should imagine! Sorry, mini-rant over!
Love Chemmy's diarys though....she has my sympathy - bunions infected down to the bone Ouch!!

I was left wondering whether the "gor blimey" lorry drivers were the Ski Club members and the fur-collared aristocratic lady was enjoying the free day?
Perhaps Jame Cove could enlighten us on that!

I think we should demand that the SCGB publish all the data it has on just what proportion of its membership comprises fur-collared aristocratic ladies and indeed, how many of them drive lorries.

I'm struggling with the image of fur-collared aristocratic ladies driving lorries!
I'd imagine the the old Ski Sunday viewing figures benefitted from scheduling - there was never much else on to compete and, of course, there were only 4 (or was it 3 then) channels to choose from. Or perhaps the success of the programme lay in some aspirational element within the viewing public.
With the increase in recreational snowsports participants that there appears to have been, maybe skiing has become a reality for many more, thus making the programme less aspirational and less watchable? Be interesting to know the viewing figures for the Sunday morning report and the mid-week 2 am slot.

I always wonder about those Chemmy Diaries on C4 Skiing....if i was a sponsor i'm not sure i'd say I was getting good value. She kinda paints the wrong picture about life on the tour. We should be seeing her working and training hard and getting focused for the various races, not spending most of the time messing about with half the US team and relaxing all over the place with candles etc.
Shes a great talent and obviously has the ability to get decent results, but i think the video should be working harder to show how dedicated she is, maybe she'd secure some extra funding off the back of it. Possibly even gain some respect from the viewers about what it takes to compete at that level too, just looks a bit like a loooooong holiday which i'm pretty sure it isn't.
