I'm 6' 0" and 75kg, usually ski on 170cm or even 165 if it's really firm (yes, mostly on piste). I tried Crossmax V800s this year and liked them a lot and am thinking of trying the V12s but was wondering if I might find them a bit too stiff compared with the current V8s? Anyone have any experience of these or know how much stiffer the 12s might be?

I can't comment on either ski. If you fancy saving some money try fischer RX8s. They give a fantastic performance. Admin might even be able to get you a deal on last year's model for about £200. These retail for £465 in Ellis Brigham and the only difference from last year is the top sheet

beedeji, actually I'm not sure it's distributed in the US; I skied it in Canada. My 90kg found it much softer than expected, which actually made it a bit more versatile in cut-up snow if not quite as grippy on ice.

petemillis, not being lazy but I prefer to rent skis rather than make my own.  BTW,dan100, I'm not looking at buying right now, only skiing a couple of weeks a year so just renting different things each time to work out what I really like for when I do finally take the plunge. £200 though...

beedeji, Wouldn't rent creampuffs meself! Re the skis - I was sorely tempted to buy a pair of V12s befor eI got my Magfire 10s, and now I've just gone bid on a pair of 1 season ones on ebay! Ski Bilek have got the 06/07 ones on there at the moment....might be worth you putting a bid on. I did wonder the same as you - whether the V8 might be better for all over the place compared with the V12.

They're a very good ski at that price. I like having toys but its a fair point you make about renting. There're a link in buy sell exchange on last year's RX8 I think they were something like 223 euros plus 40 p&p. not bad for a ski selling at £465 this year with different graphics
