I don't wish to start a skiers vs boarders thing, but on the whole, who are the most competent or able when it comes to safely getting down very tricky pistes?
Only kidding!

Just possibly it's one or the other, but I'd put my money on either.

Having thought about it, I think it's either skiers or boarders or both, but it's definitely one or two of the other but not neither.

As a skier, I actually think that you see more incompetent skiers than boarders.

Kramer, I hate to admit but I think you might be right.
That said, petemillis, question was quite specific and I would have to submit that I think skis are possibly more suited to safe transport down some kinds of tricky slopes. Under the right feet of course.

Kramer, isn't that just because skiers, when unbalanced look very unbalanced, when with boarders they're just sitting down

Kramer, as a boarder I despair at the incompetence of myself

I think generally Skiers make the more competent skiers, while boarders tend to do better on a board. I am unbiased as an incompetent skier and even less competant boarder.

I think that skis are generally slightly more flexible. The ability to stop by snowploughing as well as skidding just makes it a bit more easy to manouevre.
Also touring boards seem to be very much a compromise compared to normal skis with touring bindings.
