Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Easter Weekend

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Fairly new to skiing so to save me trawling through 101 websites can anyone tell me if it will be possible to book a package trip for the Easter Weekend - would appreciate advice re companies that might offer this and realistic opinions on where there will be snow. In a ideal world we would fly out early Good Friday 6th April and return Monday 9th April - but can't face a DIY job - hence the need for a organised weekend. Is this being far too optimistic?

sally s, I would say no hope unfortunately. Easter is two of the busiest weeks and your weekend is bang in the middle. Trawling around shows that many places were booked up weeks ago. Cant see anyone offering [package deals for tht weekend. Crying or Very sad

Uh okay - I had thought that the season would more or less be over then but obviously not - thanks for info - I'll rub out the pencilled in weekend away then!

sally s, Sorry to be the bringer of bad news. FWIW 18 of us are in the 3v for the first week of Easter. Its a great time to ski with kids.

sally s, don't be put off doing DIY for that weekend.

Last year I was travelling round several ski resorts in April, and had no problem geting accommodation in Saas Grund (on the same lift pass as Saas Fee, Switzerland). I just turned up at the tourist office and they offered me several hotels.

What are you reasons for not wanting to DIY it?

Thanks for advice Elizabeth. I can see how we can book flights online but at what point do you decide which resort to go to and where to book accomodation - we would have kids with us so need some assurance we will get rooms - would a tourist office even be open on Good Friday and then how do you get to resort from Airport? And guarantee transport back in time for flight - just seems a touch too adventurous to turn up and hope for best with only a weekend to play with. I guess nearer the time we could book flights, look for snow and then book rooms online after first finding out about reliable transport to and fro resort - but as relative newcomers to all this is sounds all rather risky to me! We did a package with Neilson at Xmas and have booked again with them for half term and it is so easy to leave all that hassle to someone else - grit teeth, handover money and its sorted!

sally s I wouldn't turn up in a resort without a res at Easter, especially with kids. You can reserve online through the tourist office/accomodation website. The longer you leave it, the less choice you'll have.

My preference for transfer is train (when possible) or car hire (good for a weekend). There are transfer companies who offer anything from scheduled buses to taxis via 'semi private' transfers, any of those should get you to the airport on time.

Flights with EJ ex Bournemouth are £125 at the momebt for your dates, so quite reasonable. That only gives 2 days skiing though.

sally s, you don't say quite how much of a newbie you are, but if you're a reasonably confident red run skier you may be in luck with the SCGB. They have three holidays on over that weekend, two of which are at that level and showing places left, in Flaine and Davos. They go out Thursday eve, probably something like a 7:30pm flight. I've been on those weekends before and they can be good fun. If you're still a bit timid on blues though, this willl be too much for you. If this sounds about your level give them a call.

sally s, you could sort out DIY now if you wanted to.

Decide on where you want to ski, and email their tourist office, with your requirements. Then ask snowHeads the best way to get to the resort!! It is slightly more work that booking with a tour op, but is fairly straightforward. Lots of us on here do it on a regular basis, so ask away.....usually someone can help.

Thanks people - this is all great info - I had not considered flying from Bournemouth nor knew about the Ski Club weekends and I know I could try and organise the whole trip myself it is just knowing where to go - too much choice really but I do feel more confident now that help is available. Will park myself and laptop on sofa tomorrow and pluck up courage to book something or attempt a DIY job - thanks again.

sally s, I totally understand your point about having too much choice!!!

Decide on a country.....decide where you're flying to.....and then ask snowHeads for their advice. Cool

sally s, there are a large number of weekend specialist companies that may well be able to accommodate you. www.skiweekends.com and www.flexiblebreaks.com are two that spring to mind (I have only been with the first one and would go with them again - they certainly do a 4 day special at Easter)

We've done quite a few DIY trips at Easter, longer than a weekend, but midweek flights.
