Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Les Gets - Brief Report

Well we went off for a week at Les Gets on the 20. January, when we arrived at the resort however there was no snow except on the very tops of the mountains. Lots of green grass. Two telecabins were working but those were only for people who wanted to go and look at the view, no skiing at all. The resort itself was pretty deserted.

Luckily a free bus was put on to take skiers off to Avoriaz, about 30 minutes drive away, so we had to be up early and down at the bus stop for the 08:30 bus (the first of about 4 runs). The snow at Avoriaz was pretty good and we skied there Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. At about 3pm on the Tuesday it started to snow and that carried on for about 24 hours. Our Tuesday evening coach trip from Avoriaz back to Les Gets was pretty exciting as there was plenty of snow on the road by then. We passed one car in a ditch on its roof and our coach knocked the wing mirror off another coach as we went past.

By Wednesday morning Les Gets had had about 15" of snow and the run directly behind out chalet opened and so did about a dozen other runs into the village. By the end of the day some runs were getting a bit tired. On Thursday a lot more runs had been opened especially higher up ones which had excellent coverage and produced some good fun skiing

The resort itself is pretty attractive, with a good range of places to eat and drink and it soon filled up with visitors once the snow came along. There’s a good mix of runs, but some of the blues felt more like greens. Not many reds were open and I think only one black, but that didn't bother most of our party.

Would we go back? I think we would.

jashcroft, you must have been mighty relieved to get the fresh snow on Tuesday. To have arrived to a closed resort must have been really discouraging. We've been to Les Gets a few times and enjoyed it, though it's useful to have a car to get to some of the other nearby PDS resorts, for a change of scene.

jashcroft, sounds like you enjoyed it. I certainly did, even if Monday was like skiing in wet cement. I've been back a few times, and will go back again. Certainly picked the lucky week to go (week before would have been a near disaster, and this week starts with our left overs with not much forecast). Up high was best by far, and above the clouds for much of the week, so nice and sunny but still cold.
Very enjoyable week, with the only downsides being the 40min queue for tickets on Monday and one of the other chalet guests being skiied into by a 70 yr old, both of whom needed the bloodwagon.

We had a small car with us, which got us down (in two trips) to the bus stop for Avoriaz, then it was loaded up with the skis and boots and followed the coach to Avoriaz. Car was also usefull for nipping down to the supermarket for the beer.

It was pretty cold at times in Les Gets espcially down some of the tree lined runs which were out of the sun and the snow makers were running, we all ended up covered in ice particles.

We were lucky that there was a little hut selling ski passes very near to our chalet at La Touche, which then gave us quick access onto the slopes.
