Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I visited Zakopane in the summer. It looks and feels like Keswick, a mountain tourism town. They had a cable car up the big mountain. The map had some lifts off of that one. Wasn't able to get up to it. The other side of town the hills were more rolling and I spotted some lifts. The roads run along the top of the rolling ridges and the tows ran down into the valleys.

Have been to Poland many times in the summers to visit relatives, although not had the chance to go skiing yet. Cousins say that Zakopane is the main resort - but will feel tiny if compared to European resorts. The thing to do apparently is cross-country which is very big over there when you get bored of the downhill runs!
Now that there are 2 low cost airlines (Wizz Air from Luton and Air Polonia from Stansed) I'm intending to go over more often so would be great to get a report from you when you get back.
(Checking out the airline in October - see whether it has been built out of lego!!!) rolling eyes

I too have been to Zakopane in summer. Took the cable car to the top and walked back down.

The town is reasonably close to Krakow which is certainly worth a visit if you have a day off.

Another option is Slovakia just over the boarder. The closest resorts are in the High Tatras, but the better snow conditions and vert. can be found across the Liptov valley in the Nizke Tatry (Low Tatras). Crowds are typically lower in Slovakia than in Poland and the beer is better too. Smile

Here are some articles that Slovak ski journalist Roman Millan and myself co-authored about skiing in Slovakia for the English language Slovak Spectator last year:

[Admin take note!! the Snowbase is still invisible!!]

johnfmh, if you mouseover "snowBase" (bottom righthand corner of the image top left of this page), all will be revealed. Click on the first option, "Resorts", and a page listing all the countries currently included will load. Scroll down to the Slovak Republic where a total of 17 resorts has been added.

Please let me know if there are any errors, duplications etc. in the list....
