Hello, the past weekend we did another short trip to the Alps, this time at the Haute Savoie.
we're based at La Clusaz, at U'fredy, good value price.... outside the hotel:

the lower parts of La Clusaz were a bit bare, but since 1800 great powder. La Balme and Torchere was pretty fine, and the top of L'aiguille too.
from the top of l'Aiguille:

Form the top of La Balme, nice balcony to Monsieur Mont Blanc:

Stunning views:, now towards L'Aiguille Verte:

The Grand Massif at north:

Megeve to the east:

And to the south, the Savoie, it was possible to view the Vanoise Glacier:

Metalian and The Mont Blanc:

Then in the Torchere Bowl, we walk a little (15-20m) to reach the top:

And another time appears the Giant:

The Massif des Aravis is really nice; L'Etale:

La Balme at the afternoon from La Clusaz city!:

The lower parts weren't good, and looking for off-pistes they're only possible in La Balme or Torchere, so we decided to know other ski resorts, and as a real attraction to the Giant, we decided to try Chamonix.....

I was in La Clusaz last weekend & they were the poorest piste conditions I've experienced in 15 years of skiing & boarding. Ice, mud & grass, with the occasional inch of snow here & there.
The village, the scenery, the food & the drink were all excellent though!

Great photos Sr Don AlTom; plenty of snow there! Friends just back from Zermatt and Cham reported their best skiing on Brevent. How long is the drive from La Clusaz to Cham?

AlTom, Fab photos as always from you. I'm really glad you had a good time. The snow in that area looks good to me!

The drive is about 1h - 1h10m depending on the weather and road conditions. BUT, you have to pass the Col des Aravis, these days the road was cleaned; if there's snow in the road it can be an eternity..

Yes, in Cham the snow was good and enough! And without any snow canyon, all "mother nature" snow!
now I'm praying for a dumping in Pyrenees, and not 30 or 40cm, we need 1m!!! On February I don't have plannings for the Alps, and I need to "mantain" the feelings and do a little warm-up to arrive at March's 1st week in good conditions to "destroy" Verbier and the Mont-Fort!!
These trips to France are also a good test to demonstrate that my knowledge of français is still insuficient........(For sure, nobody knows Spanish or Catalan... )... I hope that next year I'll be able to use only french, without the english help..

And for all the people who thinks that it's the worst season in the last decades.... Yes, not the best one, for example, in Pyrenees, without artificial snow ALL the resorts were closed, and the Pirena is the first year cancelled, also the Marcha Beret (the biggest cross country skiing race in the Pyrenees).
But, you can see the glass half full or half empty, and if you saw the different snow reports in this forum this season have had some pretty days, and we hope for betters

Thanks for the info on the drive. Se ha suspendido la "Marcha Beret"... Qué lástima!!

You know it makes sense.

Spent lastweekend in La Clusaz as well and agree largely with AlTom, on the conditions. La Balme area was by far the best by last Sunday. The lower runs were a mixture of porridge and rock by Monday. More snow desperately needed.
