Poster: A snowHead

hello all,
We booked a holiday last week via first choice to arc 1800 (stayed there 2 years ago-great time). We were told yesterday that our accom was no longer available (apparently was on web site in error when we booked) but they could offer us a better accom in 1950 ,this looks fine on the web sites but if anybody could answer these questions I would be v grateful:
I am aware there is a bus between 1950 and 1800 but what times does it operate ? how long is the journey?
what is 1950 like for a non skier ?
what is 1950 like for a fairly nervous (2 week experience) nine year skiier ?
any answers/advice gratefully recieved
martin

mart99@freeuk.com, welcome to snowHeads.
You'd need to take two shuttle buses to get to 1800 from 1950. The first to 1650, then another one to 1800. Shuttles run from 7.30am to 9.30pm approximately. Not done this journey by bus, but I'd guess 30 minutes if you include waiting to change buses in 1650.
Arc 1950 seems to have quite a few activities running during the week, so there should be a choice of things to do. Plus several bars and cafes to frequent during the day. There's a free pedestrian friendly gondola between 1950 and 2000.
Skiing wise 1950 is ideal for new skiers. Lots of long, gentle pistes can be accessed from your doorstep. The ski school in 1950 (Spirit 1950) has a good reputation. Worth booking in advance if you are going at a busy time.

Just got back from arc 2000 today, there is very little to do for a non skier to do in either 1950 or 2000, buses run every 15mins and takes approx 20mins, plenty of gentle blues for beginners in the area. But like everywhere, precious little snow, very very slushy yesterday

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

We spent a week in 2000, just a 2 minute lift ride from 1950 or 1 minute by skiis. You can reach 1800 side of the ridge by just on chair lift and there are blues to 1800 and back to 1950 which I think your nine year old will manage and enjoy. 1950 centre is much prettier than 1800 or 2000 but I suspect a little more pricey. There isn't a great deal to do in the day time at any of the purpose built resorts. If it is warm then it will be colder in 1950/2000 as the slopes get less sun and visa-versa. I don't think there is much in it. We found private lessons from ESF in 2000 to be very good.
