Poster: A snowHead

Hi all you Snowheads,
A group of roughly 30 of us are already in the process of planning a trip to Kitzbuhel in February 2008. Initially, we were all going to head there in cars, but thought maybe the cost would be cheaper to hire a coach and driver(s) for the week.
Any thoughts or experiences?
Thanks in advance,
Dougie

Dougie, we used to use a coach for our end of season trip, depends on where you are based as to who you use and the cost split between 30 shouldn't be too bad
one issue is once you have booked the coach and people start to drop out,... it starts to get pricey, you may be able to get a deal to fly if you contact the group bookings department of some of the airlines

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Try this for size:

You may also be able to hire two minibuses - might be possible to get insurance without need for special minibus driving tuition. If not, then consider hiring four 8 person MPVs.
Don't forget that coach drivers may need entertaining for a week.

Thanks for your replies CEM and crosdie,
Some definite considerations there for us.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Dougie, don't do it. You end up having to pay for the driver's accommodation, food, wages & allowances as well as the coach hire. Just get in early with a booking to Munich or Salzburg airport and go from there. I'm a veteran organiser of group trips, trust me on this one!

Do any sleeper trains go near Kitzbuhel?
May be able to book an entire rail car at a knock down rate.

crosbie, yes. Have a look here or there or even everywhere. I'd better get my reservation in pronto!

There's one serious flaw to your plan Crosbie - and that's the fact that some of you are bound to get on each other's tits, especially with the hassle of travelling and being together for the whole week. When I've organised groups (nearly always comes down to me for some reason!), I've always booked everyone's flights (AFTER they've paid me) and accommodation and then we've all just got on with it. We've ended up in different parts of the plane but then just congregated at the other end to collect hire cars or whatever for the transfer. I'd hate to be stuck with just too many of my mates or, even worse, work colleagues for the whole journey!
Why don't you just book Snowcoach tickets for the whole lot of you? Does it matter if there are other people apart from your group?

petemillis, very wise words. I'd doubt it would matter too much if there were other people unless the group was very tightly knit, e.g. a group from a convent, monastery, nudist colony, etc.
Snowcoach sounds like a good idea.

Pete Mills, Funnily enough we are a small nudist colony wanting to ski. An obsession for snowballs probably!

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

Those who didn't quite make the grade to join the 'large nudist' colonies eh?
